I've been looking and I haven't heard this mentioned yet. During the Obamunist coronation ceremony lefties Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen were singing "This Land is your Land."
To my utter shock and amazement, they actually brought out a verse that is hardly ever sung in public. This verse openly calls for the overthrow of private property.
Watch from 2:42 on the video, here are the lyrics:
There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me;
Sign was painted, it said private property;
But on the back side it didn't say nothing;
That side was made for you and me.
The crowd and the red chorus in the background gleefully sung along as the communists openly revealed their intentions.
Folks, we are in for a long road ahead.
Punky's Whips.
I have heard Dropkick.
Sort of current Celtic. But since I love “big” music, I liked what I heard.
I hear you’ve been having trouble with pigs and ponys.
The Sugarcane Harris violin work on Weasels and Burnt Weeny Sandwich is awesome. Ian Underwood’s on Gumbo Variations was the first sax solo I ever learned note-for-note.
Blow your harmonica son.
They are great. Celtic meets punk to a certain degree if that is possible.
Toads of the short forest.
“...and the alto sax, blowing his nose!”
Zappa was able to showcase other players styles in signature performances, for some the best of their careers. I never got into his sophomoric stuff, but things like Hot Rats were major influences. I was a big Beefheart fan too.
and every newt in idaho.
now is that a real poncho, i mean a mexican poncho or is it a sears poncho.
what is a mendocino-beano????
For me, the magic Zappa/Mother’s albums were Weasels Rippped My Flesh, Burnt Weenie Sandwich, Hot Rats, and most of Chunga’s Revenge. I still like to put the sax through a wah pedal sometimes.
Good analysis. Seeger is still a communist though without a Party. He has supported the Stalinist CPUSA, the Trotskyites’ Socialist Workers Party, the Maoist publication “Guardian” (US weekly), the Stalinist formerly CP formerly Maoist “Workers World Party” - ANSWER and IAC, and just about every other form of communism on the political spectrum.
Woody Guthrie was a hardcore Party man who also liked to write and sing, as is Seeger. His son is a leftist who liked Hanoi.
Springsteen is a jerk and is the right person to be Seeger’s successor, as you pointed out, but he doesn’t have the communist history that Guthrie and Seeger brought to music and agitprop. What he will do in the future will be interesting to watch.
Wow, party to my first thread hijacking.
Apologies to any non-Zappa fans.
Ian Underwood - I am the straight member of the group...LOL....whip it out.
Ian was awesome - wonder what he’s doing these days. He must be pushing 70, if he’s still alive....wikipedia here I come
LOL - no mistaking any of those lyrics. Bozio was great in that song.....
I don't think you want to know. There is the bug part. Figure it out for yourself.
Ian Underwood went on to be highly successful in movie soundtracks, producing, etc. Reportedly, he would have nothing to do with other Mothers alum.
Those are some of my favorites also. Ahead Of Their Time is a good live cd from that era. Back then he sort of merged with some of the Turtles - the music, especially the woodwinds, is some of his best ever.

I just checked - looks like he and Ruth are still alive and married...
I figured it out a while back, just threw that out there. I think it can be interpreted a couple ways, one of which is pretty outrageous......too funny
I saw Zappa with Flo and Eddie (Turtles) right after Chunga was released, at the Felt Forum, just before the Live at the Fillmore show. Ruth Underwood was also with him for that show. I’ve seen Dweezil and his band, they do a great job recreating his music.
Thanks, this was fun.
