House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has completed the Democratic roster of the House ethics committee, which faces the task of investigating powerful Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel, a New York Democrat.

The Speaker on Thursday appointed Ben Chandler of Kentucky, G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina, Kathy Castor of Florida and Peter Welch of Vermont to the panel, which is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.

Earlier this week, Pelosi named Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., to chair the panel, known as the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct. The committee had not yet met, awaiting the appointments.

Most members who served on the panel in the 110th Congress were barred from doing so again because they had reached their six-year term limits.

Caucus Approves Roster; GOP Seats Filled The full House Democratic Caucus approved Lofgren and the other selections Thursday.

"Each of these members appointed to serve on the ethics committee has shown strong commitment to the integrity of the House of Representatives," Pelosi said. "The ethics committee will continue the work of strengthening Americans' faith in the institution of Congress, and these newly appointed members will take the serious and substantive steps to do so."

Earlier, Republicans designated Jo Bonner of Alabama as the panel's ranking minority member. Other Republicans on the committee are J. Gresham Barrett of South Carolina, K. Michael Conaway of Texas, John Kline of Minnesota and Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania.

One of the panel's first tasks will be to determine how to proceed with its investigation into Rangel's fundraising and personal finances.

I see that my Rep - Charlie Dent (R-PA) will be a member of the ethics committee. Since Charlie just voted FOR SChip, I am sure that this RINO will kiss Charlie Rangel’s a$$ when it comes down to nut-cuttin’ time. So Rangel skates - count on it!

Also appearing at this "peace" rally with the demonRat Charlie Rangel, now chairman of The House Ways and Means Committee, were Saddam Hussein lawyer, Ramsey Clark and convicted terrorist enabler/attorney, Lynne Stewart. Clark, with Workers World Party, started up that other 'peace' group, A.N.S.W.E.R. Clark also heads the International Action Center and was actually once Attorney General of the United States under democrat LBJ.
