GOP Sen. John McCain is positioning himself to be one of President Barack Obamas strongest supporters, effectively giving Democrats the votes they need to override any GOP attempt to block the new administrations legislative agenda.
Obama heaped warm praise on his GOP rival during a dinner held in McCains honor the day before the inauguration, calling him a hero.
Insiders duly noted McCain was granted a prime spot on the dais at the inauguration, sandwiched in a seat between White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The day after the inauguration, Obama and McCain spoke again at the National Prayer breakfast.
It was all part of Obamas ongoing charm offensive to woo those on the other side of the aisle. The effort was apparently well received by the maverick senator from Arizona, who throughout his career has shown a proclivity for teaming up with Democrats on legislation.

Bingo, Those pushing him were even more deranged than the ones pushing mccain.
I thought that had been talked about in the past and they decided not to for whatever reason. I could be wrong, though since it has been known to happen a time or two. :}
McCain has got to be the biggest Quisling in Republican political history. He has hatched a Gosling in Lindsey Graham.
And he only chose Sarah Palin to saddle her with a high profile loss, run interference for the press as she was savaged by them all in an attempt to derail any future she would have in national politics.
And I fell for his act big time. I hope she leaves his plans in tatters.
You are correct. Registered Republicans did not vote McCain into nomination. Independents and Democrats did.
Damn. I had to stand if front of the voting machine for 10 minutes to get myself to pull the lever for that twit. After I had sworn I would never vote for him. Should have stuck to my guns. It’s time for a revolution in the GOP.
You are correct. I’m so happy Fox rewarded him with a prime time program. Now we actually turn the news off on Saturday night and have a real conversation at dinner.
Wish I could find Huckleberry hound snickering for that statement!
I believe things have worked out just peachy for McCain, and he could not be in a better spot. Before the campaign, he was just the “Republican” senator who could be counted on to go against his party on major issues. Now he can do so as the party’s “former standard bearer”. When he gives cover to Obama (as he has already done on GITMO), he is in a much stronger position to cut the conservatives’ legs out from under them.
Look for McCain to be a very frequent guest on the network talk shows as he brings a sense of bipartisanship to Obama’s liberal agenda. McCain will get the adoration from the national media which he craves and he won’t care that it is fake and phony praise. Just because his media buddies slimed him once he got the nomination doesn’t mean he won’t grovel to get that symbiotic relationship back on track.
Just to pick one issue among many, McCain will be more than happy to bring more than 12 million new dimocrat voters into the fold before the next election with his amnesty for illegal aliens plan. That number could double in a few more years as the turmoil in Mexico pushes even more immigrants through the open borders of the friendly, generous neighbor to the north.
McCain disregarded the First Amendment in the name of CFR and then was demolished in the presidential election by an opponent with over $650 million to spend—from sources noone can verify.
If elected, he would have put Sarah Palin in the back closet and done everything possible to ruin her. He would no sooner drill in ANWAR than he would in the Grand Canyon, remember that one?
From Bush opponent to Obama ally - that is the trail of John McCain— and it should tell you all you need to know about him.
So Juan is an ally of a guy who pals around with terrorists. Whoda’ thunk?
I voted for John McCain, mainly to vote against Obama. It was not easy to vote for McCain because I took a look at a video made by a fellow POW in Vietnam. This former Vietnam POW stated that McCain does not have what it takes to serve as POTUS. The man was sincere and convincing. I voted for McCain/Palin anyway. I believe that the former fellow POW, and, I might add, Joe the Plumber, got it right! McCain is a broken man who cannot be trusted to make any decision. It is time for him to retire and prepare his memoirs for all of us to read and reflect on.
You do have a point, but the cool-aide drinkers, republicans, here will call you a liberal are something just as bad. But you are correct!
McCain will appear on Fox News on Sunday to talk "about how big a player he plans to be with the new administration, but also discuss the future of the GOP, the proposed economic stimulus and what to do about the terrorist detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay."
I think it’s unseemly to brag in a situation like this, but I will say I had this POS properly categorized after watching part of the POW/MIA hearings in 1993. He’s never been anything but some sort of psycho since appearing on the public scene. There are no logical explanations for his behavior. The explanations would truly fall into the realm of psychiatry. Some real issues going on with McCain.
McCain has said only positive, supportive things about her since the election.
Single most moronic, idiotic, imbecilic I've heard in 35 years as a political junkie.
Absolutely STUPID!
I think McCain cares for us about as much as we care for him.
Back pre-election I got these hysterical pings about how if McCain didnt win we would all be in Communist prison camps or shot for hiding our black market food. (not kidding.) Yet by then I knew McCain would lose and I knew HE HAD TO LOSE! It was the Hannity/Levin/Savage song that got these republicans in a tizzy. Unfortunately for McCain, maybe only 10% of voters heard them, and it was so stupid anyways. McCain would have caused even worse problems then BoB, hard as that may seem.
