In allowing the Department of Interior to proceed with its Draft Proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program 20102015, the Obama Administration has moved a step in the right direction for American energy independence.
Risks remain, however, that the Congressional majority will once again reinstate the bans on off-shore drilling and oil shale explorationas did the House that just last year when it voted to seal off 80 percent of the outer-continental shelf. Already this year, in its just-passed lands bill, the Senate has voted to take more than 8.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 300 million barrels of oil out of production in Wyoming. President Barack Obama will surely be tested on the issue of increased energy production. And whether he signs the $10 billion pork-laden Senate lands bill may be a good indicator as to whether he will, indeed, fight for energy independence. Or whether he will supinely accept serfdom to foreign powers determined to hold the nation hostage over a barrel of oil.

Well, now it’s up to Dingy Harry and Queen Pelosi to stab America in the pipeline.
Surprise...surprise....I thought I heard the opposite yesterday.....guess they realized NOT doing so meant gas prices would go up greatly.
Ping.
They know that they can block it later at the enviromental impact level. They just want to collect the money from the oil companies for the leases and then screw them.
This would be a good place for McConnell to make stand if they tried. They are not going to win on many points but standing up for energy supplies is crucial. With prices having falled they can play on people’s fear of increases again.
He appointed Ken Salazar to manage the Dept of Interior. I will believe in Drilling when I see oil being offloaded from a platform.
This yote tried to sneak in legislation to block exploration and development of oil shale in Colorado and Utah when Congress let the last ban expire.
Oil is not on his list of energy sources. Unless harnessing soil he means the oil and gas under the soil? What energy is in soil that we can run our cars and factories on?
We note that the One is given credit for “not blocking” what Bush initiated, with no credit to Bush for initiating it.
Can there be any doubt that that’s the way it will be played by the MSM.
The one single thing that could have derailed the Obama election was energy prices. If they go nuts during years 3 & 4 of this term his chances for re-election would go down the tubes faster than Jimmy Carter’s did. Obama knows the stakes, but do Reid & Pelosi care?
Peat has been used to fuel vehicles.
But I will grant that smelting iron ore in a peat fueled smelter would be quite a challenge.
He's going to have current bushes planted everywhere....
Yesterday it was reported that he signed an executive order to block off-shore drilling causing the price of oil to jump... what happened? Did he change his mind, or were the reports wrong?
It may be a euphemism for: "You can all go pound sand if you think I'm gonna allow drilling". Pound sand in itself could generate a lot of energy--or expend it depending on your point of view.
He's talking about plant based biofuels.
Methane! Just google "methane digester" (of course, that depends on that the meaning of the word "soil" is)
