English-only measure fails, group says [Nashville]

An English-only measure in Nashville has failed, said the opposition Nashville for All of Us group.

The Nashville Tennessean reported Thursday that with two-thirds of precincts reporting, there were 25,573 votes against the proposed amendment and 20,329 in favor.

The newspaper said the second measure on the ballot, which would allow more frequent changes to the Metro Nashville charter, was failing by about 11,000 votes.

The English-only measure would require all Metro Nashville government business be done in English.

The newspaper said if the referendum passed, the only possible government exceptions to the English-only law would be health and safety situations mandated by the City Council.

I’m quite sickened by it, I was watching the results as they came in. Local polls on the websites indicated it would pass. Unfortunately, the liberal groups kicked into high gear and besieged every household in Nashville with scary mailers and phone calls demogoguing the issue from it being “mean spirited” to saying it would cause our taxes to go up. Never a single mailer or commercial in favor. I think the groups were actually more fearful of the second measure, allowing more frequent changes to the charter (the only way to get REAL reforms through in Nashville).

Polls that I saw were 68 for and 32 against. Let’s hope the turn-out was a little better than being indicated. (These were online polls BTW)

Anyone who voted for this should withhold all future complaints about bariozation, escalating crime, unavailability of entry-level jobs, poor education, crowded emergency rooms and all-day visits to government offices.

This one broke strangely.

Nashville is RINOland, and the big names went against it.

That vote tally is about as good as Nashville is going to get. It’s practically Memphis in terms of being dominated by Dems and RINOs.

Nobody with any sense should stay in Davidson County. I know a lot of good people I grew up with who are selling their homes in Bellevue, Hermitage, and Antioch. It’s time to leave this cesspool, even if you have to sell at a loss. Bart Gordon’s district is very close to the tipping point. If you feel like you need to live in a town and not have acreage, then you can move to M’Boro.

Last one out of Davidson is a rotten egg. Time to quit pretending that Nashville is anything other than another lib litterbox.

I’ve been trying to get out of Davidson County for a year and a half, even willing to sell at a loss. The problem with living in RINO land is that the school system reflects it. Move just down the road a piece and you’re in conservative land (Williamson County) where the liberals are few and the schools are top-notch.

Not a surpise - Nashville is the liberal butthole of TN. If this would have been in Knoxville, it would have passed at 70-30%.
