The Academy has outdone themselves again this year, nominating no fewer than four movies that few people have even seen or have any interest in. (How many people actually even know what these movies are about?) Slumdog Millionaire is actually a decent film, but I doubt anybody's seen it. Where's Iron Man? It made $318 million dollars. The Dark Knight? $531 million, loved by critics, and obviously loved by audiences. WALL*E? $A 223 million family film. Those of you who think is left-leaning, I encourage you to read about the director (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2040532/posts).
This is just terribly insulting. It's as if these elitist morons feel the need to differentiate "good" films from films people actually like and watch. (Hint: any movie about liberalism, much like liberalism itself, is destined to fail).

No Heath Ledger.
Just the usual suspects.

What garbage!
I don’t even watch American movies anymore. Now that I have Netflix, I order foreign films instead. They don’t insult my intelligence.

Do you think popularity equals quality? A lot of good films never play outside of big cities.

Where’s Gran Torino?
Oh, Eastwood is a “Republican.” Never mind.

All one has to do is make a film about any homosexual related subject and it is a sure nomination.

With a movie like Gran Torino? Wasn’t it for the movie about the female boxer?

Yes, too bad. I was hoping Clint might have been able to pull down an Oscar. Guess I’ll be pulling for Mickey Rourke now.

Most insiders agree that (so I’ve heard), Hollywood award shows are more about popularity and there are huge campaigns for nominations and awards that are launched by the wealthy and popular.
Winning awards is good for careers. The public popularity of a given movie has little to do with the awards and accolades it receives.

What do u expect? These “artists” didn’t have the balls to nominate “Passion of the Christ”, the movie which saved the box office a few years back, what are the chances “The Dark Knight” would be nominated?
I think they heard it was pro-Bush so it got deep-sixed.
On the other hand, Bush-defender Mickey Rourke is my pick for LA. I also hope Heath Ledger wins the SA as well.

Haven’t seen any of the nominated films. My wife has seen most of them. She’d probably pick something else.
Maybe next year here. ;-)

I just checked out the official Gran Torino website.
Obviously, written by a liberal.
“Walt” is a racist who learns form the minorities in the neighborhood.
Blah, blah, blah...
