Val Kilmer Mulls Bid for N.M. Governor
Newsmax ^ | January 21, 2009 | Rick Pedraza

Actor Val Kilmer says he is strongly considering a run for governor of New Mexico in 2011 when term limits force Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson out after 12 years.

Reports that Kilmer is serious about making a bid for his home state’s highest office have been circulating for months.

In November, Kilmer told the New York Post, "There's sort of a rumor around that I'm maybe thinking about running to be governor of New Mexico? Well, it's sort of true. It's been my home for 25 years. I really love my state. Poor, hardworking, decent people — Native Americans, carpenters, artists, expats mixed in with hundreds of the world's smartest physicists at Los Alamos. I've always thought of myself as functioning as a candidate for them.”

At the Huffington Post inaugural party for President Barack Obama Monday, Kilmer again confirmed he is interested in the governorship and said Democratic Party officials have approached him to do so, but he did not name them.

“Actually, they’ve asked me to run for governor,” he tells The Hill. “People seem to want me to.”

Richardson supports Kilmer’s bid to replace him. In September, he told Starpulse.com, "I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics. I haven't talked to him about it, I don't know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted."

Damn, I love that line. I live for the opportunity to use it in real life.

Buddy, with the coming times, you'll have plenty of opportunity to use it.

Now just what qualifications or experience does he think he has to run for office? Oh, wait, a Democrat doesn’t need any qualifications or experience.

He was best in Heat

No he wasn't - go rent "Tombstone" sometime. Kilmer's Doc Holliday is the greatest supporting acting job of all time. He absolutely killed that role. Even Russell admitted in an interview that he was outclassed by Kilmer.

That last name should be Bale.

I wonder what they are going to do with the Batman movies now that they have killed Bruce Wayne in the comics. Personally, I hope they continue in the direction they are currently going.

He played an excellent psycho in “Felon”

I watched that movie online and couldn’t believe how perfect he seemed in that part.

she: Can you drive a six-inch spike through a board with your erect penis?

Val: Uh, not right now.

she: Well, a girl’s got to have her standards...

WHOOOOOOOOPS! Christian Slater has (had?) some new show on NBC, and I’ve seen commercials for that more recently than The Dark Knight.

Bale. Bale Bale Bale. The alleged lady hitter. Bale.

Kilmer is a flaming psychotic sounding stoner, utterly inappropriate and moronic.

Yep. And was really well-cast as Jim Morrison! Had him down perfect, to my thinking.

Kilmer's Doc Holliday is the greatest supporting acting job of all time.

I think Martin Landau's Bela Lugosi in 'Ed Wood' beat him for best supporting of all time. Kilmer did do the best Doc Holliday of all time though.

The stupid celebrities are taking themselves waaay too seriously. They think because they have an opinion and a microphone, they suddenly can run government. This is getting ridiculous. It’s not all their fault, the cult of celebrity created by the media and stupid airheads gave them reason to believe it.

Did you see Fran "The Nanny" Drescher on Hannity's show tonight? She wants to be appointed junior Senator from New York. She was sooooo out of her league on Sean's panel, sitting between Michael Steele and Nina Easton.

I’m afraid I didn’t as I stopped watching Fox, or almost any television anymore. But I can imagine. What’s funny is they’re so delusional they don’t know what morons and airheads they look like next to any reasonably informed public figure. They just jump right in with both feet in their mouths.

One of my husband’s too, it must be a guy thing :) (now that’s sad, when my husband is 17 years older than me but he’s more hip and aware of popular culture)

She was completely out of her element. She made, like, ya know, Caroline, like, Kennedy seem, like, a member of Mensa, ya know.

I have some of the DVD sets, but I listen to episodes on You Tube while at work. Some people listen to music while they work, I often listen to MST3K while I work.
