UNITED NATIONS: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Wednesday he looks forward to "a new era of strong and effective partnership" with the United States under President Barack Obama who shares many of the same goals as the United Nations.
Ban, who just returned to New York from a 10-day Mideast trip aimed at getting a cease-fire in Gaza, congratulated Obama on his inauguration "with great optimism."
"More than ever before, the challenges we face as a community of nations are global in scope," Ban said in a statement. "Economic uncertainty. Climate change. Pressing issues of peace and security, including disarmament and non-proliferation. The multiple crises of food, energy and human development. By their nature, these are issues that require strong and collective responses."
In his inaugural address, Ban said, "president Obama was explicit in committing his administration to tackling all of these problems, urgently and decisively."
"He spoke of the need to 'harness the sun, the winds and soil to fuel our cars and run our factories.' He expressed his determination to 'roll back the specter of a warming planet' with a more sustainable, responsible U.S. energy policy. He vowed to work with developing nations to 'make farms flourish and let clean water flow, to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds,'" Ban said.
"This is also the work of the United Nations," the secretary-general said. "Our goals are shared. Together, America and the United Nations can look forward to a new era of strong and effective partnership, delivering results and the change we need."

Here it comes. Question is what are we going to do about it? Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing some shiny blue helmets in my neighborhood. *wink wink*
My guess is they never got over the 'oil for food" scandal that the Bush Administration exposed, and now they are "open for business" once again.
Well, if the U.S. and the U.N. now share the same goals, how far can we be from just moving to one world government? Perhaps under a president who is a “citizen of the world” and comes to “change the world.” Perhaps one like that the whole world loves?
delivering results and the change we need.
oil for food? or is that food for oil? Please move to Iran UN, most Americans do not share your values
More like Ki-moon is looking for some American money... which he'll probably be given by "O" as if it was "O's" to give.
“The multiple crises of food, energy and human development. By their nature, these are issues that require strong and collective responses.”
Yup, that’s right. We will now, through Obama, be part of the new socialist “collective.” Ban Ki-Moon chose the perfect word to use here. Commie “collective”.
