No details yet. Alert sent to all students:
VT Police have confirmed a murder in the Graduate Life Center. A suspect is in custody. Stay where you are and stay vigilant. Stay away for GLC. 8:16pm
Tsk, tsk. When guns are OUTLAWED, only OUTLAWS wil have guns!
Oh, just a knife murder. You KNOW the ‘rats are itching for the first school shooting so they can slap the once free people of this country with draconian gun laws.
You would be correct if the problem at VT, and other "gun-free-zones" was that defenseless people are only subject to being shot to death.
But the truth is that defenseless people can be murdered in various ways. And the most effective personal defense measure to prevent such slaughter is to allow competent, law-abiding adults to carry concealed firearms.
The VT administration is most certainly responsible for requiring the victim in this case to be disarmed. The feel-good effort of transmitting two emails to the entire student body had no protective effect whatever for the victim. The administration might as well issue chalk to the students so that they can draw circles around the bodies without having to wait for the campus police.
“You call that a knife? THIS is a knife.”
Too close to the national capital of crime: DC.
Clearly some Asians freak out at Tech.
Update: VT police identify suspect in fatal stabbing on campus ~ http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.asp?S=9711878
I wonder why no one interfered? It was a somewhat public place.
You called it.
Yup. China
You can own a handgun at 18 in most states, but it is illegal to buy one from a dealer if you are under 21. Private purchases are OK, as long as it is legal in your state or locale.
Yes she can own one no problem here. But, she can’t carry.
School officials will, no doubt, be touting the “success” of their “warning system”. I know this because I already saw them doing it on Channel 4 this morning.
It “only” took 4 minutes for the police to arrive. The sick irony contained in the fact that it took far less than 4 minutes for this poor young woman to be murdered has, I am sure, already wafted well over their heads.
If the woman had been ALLOWED to be armed, then maybe, just maybe, she WOULD have been armed. And then, she would have been able to defend HERSELF during the 0 - 4 minute time frame before the police arrived; the time when she was alone with her killer.
Maybe NOT, too. But now we’ll never know, and the a$$-holes who run Virginia Tech can brag about how ONLY one person got killed “this time” and how GREAT that is compared to what MIGHT have happened if they hadn’t had their new multi-million dollar “warning system” that gets the cops there in FOUR minutes.
For the record, I must state that for a well-armed and determined killer in a crowded place, four minutes is enough time to kill A LOT of people; many more than died in the previous tragedy at Virginia Tech.
Call 9-1-1 and (watch while another person) dies.
or
Zero tolerance thing, you know, fight with the perp and get kicked out for fighting, and if you took his knife away from him and and hurt him with the knife, you would be thrown out of school and prosecuted.
Sarcastic remark, yes, but not all that far from reality.
Virginia Tech is 270 miles from D.C.
There’s nothing you can do to stop some of these crimes. They happen all the time. There’s little chance of a Red Chinese national being able to carry a gun on campus to defend themselves.
Stop it, no, intervene to save a life, yes.
Have no comment about the “Red Chinese” thing, as I never mentioned that part of the equation. Perhaps you meant that for someone else?
Even if the victim was not shot to death (and she was not, she was stabbed) there is STILL blood on the hands of the VT Administration.
The culture of “run and hide and wait for the police to help you” which they perpetrate at the school is at the root of this.
Of course, this is not JUST a Virginia Tech problem. It is a nation-wide phenomenon.
Just reality. These crimes on campus tend to involve foreign nationals.
You don't HAVE to follow un-constitutional laws; you just have to be ready to go to jail for exercising your rights.
