On his last full day as president, George W. Bush commuted the prison sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, two former Border Patrol agents who were sent to prison for crimes they committed related to the shooting of a Mexican drug smuggler.
Upon being charged, these agents became convenient symbols, and far too many good people tried to justify their behavior through the prism of their own beliefs. Border Patrol officers saw them as fellow officers unfairly accused of tryin
But Compean and Ramos are anything but heroes. They are not good cops unfairly accused...

Pajamas media is like the Lincoln Chafee/Michael Medved wing of conservative opinion ie whateverrr.
Comments anyone? The MSM will be beating the “hate Bush” drum four years from now, blaming everything bad that Obama engineers that doesn’t go well on “Bush”. Obama is “too big” to fail since the MSM has also engineered his catapulting into the Oval Office, so as usual, where the MSM is concerned, don’t look for anything but condescending full support for whatever he does, good or bad.
Pajamas media is a collection of authors, with a lot of different beliefs, similar to Town Hall. I even have authored there in the past, albeit, it has been years..
What a load of crap. Reminds me of the Johnny Sutton cheerleaders here on FR.
Hope you’ve got your flame suit on...you are gonna need it.
shoot, some people here are still damning President Bush for not pardoning them, even though they requested the commutation instead of pardon..
One of the few good things he has done.

I wonder if Bob Owens is a Christian?
How would Bob Owens like to spend a couple of years in the slammer, to see what it’s like?
PJ Media can stuff it.
What is the latest; is it true they still have to serve a 3 yrs probation or something?
I think that what the President did was just right.
I don’t think R/C were bad cops, but they certainly were stupid ones that broke the law. On the other hand, the “victim” was an obvious POS and probably deserved shooting.
Regardless, 10-12 years was too long for them to spend in the can.
Thank you President Bush.
Ping to La ‘Dita....
Got your message on this the other day... Amazes me how many are quick to destroy Ramos and Compean, but have no problem with the criminal drug dealer being used as a witness against them and being allowed to continue his criminal activity...
The least Bush could have done is what he did; to commute their sentences to time already served. There is no point in further demonizing these men. They already are felons and cannot resume their law enforcement careers. Twelve years in prison was absurd, and the drug dealer continued to smuggle drugs using his prosecutor-supplied border pass. What is wrong with this picture?
Davila, the drug smuggler, was shot in the ass. However he continued to be allowed to pursue his (illegal) profession. Those who tried to protect our border were not.
Well they’ll be getting out. End of story.
Enough, already. For the love of God, somebody please shoot their monitor for me.
I’ve seen lots of stuff posted on this topic, contributed my own views several times.
I’ve never seen anyone ‘cheerleading’ on behalf of Johnny Sutton.
Wouldn’t be the first time a court, prosecutor, jury was out of bounds. After all, they let the therefore mentioned illegal be the star witness.
They’re brown and they can stick around.
