Close to 1.5 million people poured onto the National Mall Tuesday, and the biggest police action appeared to be reuniting parents with their lost children, law enforcement officials said.
We had a crowd stretching from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial and for the most part it was an orderly and festive, said U.S. Park Police Sergeant Robert LaChance. We couldnt have asked for a better day.
No arrests were made as of Tuesday afternoon, according to D.C., National Park and U.S. Capitol police.

They could have at least fined them for littering.
I wondered about how smoothly it went, also. Last night I googled and searched the internet...not one indication of problems.
Then I signed onto the Washington Post online, and there they were...one article after another. I loved the stories and blogs about the thousands, holding tickets for VIP seats, who were turned away or had entrances blocked by security or locked gates.
If I didn’t hear it myself I wouldn’t have believed she said it!
I was channel surfing before bed and it seemed all the talking heads were snippy with each other. All seemed gruntled about something.
Didn’t watch more than a total of 15 min. the entire day so I don’t know the source of their pique.
This concerned the Mall and the parade route ~ with several thousand cops prepared to instantly leap into action.
The temperature (30 degrees F) and the wind (25 MPH) helped keep the crowd quiet.
I was listening to the police on the Mall and the parade route. There were also lots of lost kids, old people with breathing problems, and various medical problems - seizures, diabetic issues, etc. The location of the trouble makers they chased and then let go was the Mall and the parade route.

Does anyone know the condition of the horse who was struck by an emergency vehicle? The photo of him lying in the street is so sad.
Be interesting to know the crime stats on urban centers of east coast cities yesterday.
