Iraq is willing to have the U.S. withdraw its troops and assume security for the country before the end of 2011, the departure date agreed to by former President George W. Bush, the Iraqi prime minister's spokesman said. Spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh made the comment Tuesday, the day before President Barack Obama and his senior commanders were to meet in Washington to discuss the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama promised during the campaign to withdraw all U.S. combat troops from Iraq within 16 months of taking office. The new president said in his inaugural address Tuesday that he would "begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people."

Al-Dabbagh told Associated Press Television News that Iraqis had been worried about a quick U.S. departure.

Its amazing how things have changed thanks to the surge. Twice as many people have been killed in Baltimore than in Iraq the last 3 months. Maybe the troops should go there...

I wouldn’t be surprised that within a year we have a LOT of troops in Africa.

What are they supposed to say? Obviously they’ll assure their people and the world community that they can handle their own security; saying anything less would be a reckless show of weakness that could quite literally be deadly. Whether it’s true or not we have yet to see.

Obambi now has options because of the great efforts of our brave troops in the “surge” policy and associated VICTORY policy that Obama and virtually all of the vicious Demagogues OPPOSED.

They tried to make our nation lose a war, which would have had catastrophic consequences for us, that region, and the world. Now that victory is at hand just watch Obambi move to claim all the credit. If never could have happened if he and his pals had prevailed.

If it were up to the Democrats the Mullahs would already rule the Middle East with their very heavy hand....

A complete pullout is stupid if Iraq was going to tolerate a limited US presence for a time. With a complete pullout there will be no anti-missile battalions, no US troop presence to put a damper on the Inranians.
