It’s not, “if you’re white, alright”. This is the quote
I helped win sweet victories,
With my plow and hoe,
Now, I want you to tell me, brother,
What you gonna do ‘bout the old Jim Crow?
Now, if you is white,
You’s alright,
If you’s brown,
Stick around,
But if you’s black, oh, brother,
Get back, get back, get back.

Note the difference “You’s alright” (as in ‘you is’) is a WHOLE lot different than what the Reverend said. And the man went through yellow and red.
It was crass.
And enough is never enough...
I remember hearing it in my Harlem/Brooklyn/Bronx days.
Before the phrase was in a song it was on the street.
