Words have meanings that convey the thoughts of one person to another. It's most important that we practice eternal vigilance over our government and call out against their misdeeds.
yeah, the author must not have read the whole paragraph at American-heritage site http://www.bartleby.com/61/27/E0152700.html ....and its very likely Obama and most others use Webster for their word definitions...I love people who site partial info simply to push their own agenda.

Webster on the other hand shows it as being still having the definitions related to size or importance. Even has a nice sentence saying this about those who say its wrong. “ Those who urge such a limitation may not recognize the subtlety with which enormity is actually used.”
