Why wouldn't they hold up in court? How else can we avoid a debacle like this 0ne? There should have been requirements in all 50 states a long time ago.

Or do we just allow mob rule, and eventually see a Hugo Chavez or Osama binLaden in the White House.

Exactly--the position of the Supreme Court is that there should be one common rule for Federal elections, not 50. States have limited ability to regulate federal elections--their "time, place, and manner," Click on the link to the Supreme Court case I noted at #32 or here. While the current cases discuss Congressional elections, there is no reason why the same logic wouldn't apply to Presidential elections. Any legislation concerning provding a birth certificate would have to come from Congress.

Just trying to inject a note of realism into discussion.
