Asian stocks pushed higher on Monday and the dollar lost ground as investors looked for U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to quickly roll out hefty economic stimulus spending and a revived plan to buy bad bank assets...

...A top Obama adviser, David Axelrod, said the incoming administration is considering setting up a government-run bank to acquire bad assets --

...The focus is now on the inauguration of the U.S. president. Hopes are growing again as economic stimulus steps will likely be bigger than previously thought, and may include additional measures to shore up banks," said Takahiko Murai, general manager of equities at Nozomi Securities in Tokyo.

Reuters. The markets have been a little ugly since Nov 4. Ya, really think the markets are gaining now because of Obama? Jeez.

The post-October-crash high in the Dow was set on Nov. 4 when Obama was elected. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a hugh and series rally tomorrow.

It won’t be a rally...it is a dead-cat bounce.

While the Asian markets may rise on HOPE, I just checked the forex futures (March) and the $US is up a tad, while the GBP and the EU are both down a tiny bit. Gold is down some, but February silver is up a bit.

Those Asian exchanges can go down quickly if the Hope’n’Change don't materialize to the degree or in the direction that the investors are betting on.

I understand fortunes are made/lost on small moves in currencies over time, but it seems to me that discussion of these markets should be time/date stamped. They change often, even if by small increments.

I don't trade or even totally understand these commodity futures markets, but I keep an eye on them to round out my understanding of current economic/political events. I am really unsure how much changes there reflect realities of supply/demand/performance/strength as opposed to reflecting trading strategies based on various algorithms and other (to me) arcane formulas.
