So, what are your plans for the coming debacle?
Vanity | January 18, 2009 | WCF

This thread (if it survives the moderators) is meant to be an end of the Republic commemorative. Bracketed by end of the Julian calendar and the Chinese New year, I thought a repository of comments marking the rise of a new leftist messiah to be sardonic and fitting.

Before any FReepers hit the ABUSE button, please look around youself . . . with kooky vanities about just-the-right-puppy-breeds and the non-stop religious scripts and debates abounding on NEWS/ACTIVISM, I thought a simple question about what conservatives were personally considering doing during the promise of a new age of fascism might be worthwhile.
So, given that we're all of a conservative mindset and that (as adults) we all recognize what the next four years (or decade and beyond) might herald, I ask: What are your plans? Where do you plan to go and what do you plan to do in years of the coming darkness?

My greatest concern about ebay is records. I'm sure they keep them and won't have the slightest problem with turning those records over to uncle sham when he finally gets around to demanding his cut.

The less of a trail the dogs have to follow to your wallet, the less you're going to have to feed them.

As I see it, if there's absolutely no other choice but to bid on an item you can't get anywhere else, sure go ahead, but it should be a last ditch effort to get something you can't possibly live without.

I’m also sending back charity request junk mail with a polite “sorry, no, why don’t you ask Obama for more money?

Clever idea. I might do the same.

That's a good point, but I don't think anybody would bother in the low dollar category. If I'm trying to keep an old thing going, buying a ten or twenty dollar part on eBay is better that trashing it, and going out to buy a new one. Besides, the sales taxes are imposed on the seller, they're allowed to ask for it and collect it from the buyer. If they don't collect it from you, it won't be your problem.

There are various ways to buy things fairly anonymously, if you're interested in higher ticket items, they might be worth looking into.

Fine. You’d surrender before the battle is over? I wonder how many of these presumptive new voters we can pull to vote conservatively. Assuming they become citizens. Assuming they bother to vote. Why can’t we be the community organizers? Do you think that perhaps Hispanic voters don’t like their family values flaunted by the leftist core Democrats?

You said — “BUT my real prayer is more and more becoming MARANATHA! Come quickly Lord Jesus!”

Amen to that...

Who said anything about surrendering? I'm saying that the voting system in this country is irretrievably BROKEN.

I'm betting they'll starve before we do.

May I suggest the Jonesborough / Greenville area? Not to far north of Knoxville, same kinds of folks. You may get more for your buck, but it has been quite some time since I’ve been there. Just a suggestion - Good Luck with your travel.

Consider France. When Hitler came to power, many Germans fled to France.

We have a set of Foxfire books. Interviews and how-to manuals on independent rural mountain living in the old days. Copies of the Foxfire series may be available on-line or on ebay. They were published during the 1970’s.

I’ve read prophetic words that indicate that if we as a nation would have a national day of repentance, God would be merciful to us. I would imagine most of those people WOULD be Christians but you never know...you might get some others to see the need.

I’m on a waiting list to check out AS from the local library. Apparrantly EVERYONE wants to read it now.

Go to your local used bookstore and buy it for a dollar. You'll want to refer back to it in the days ahead.

Good luck with the garden! I'm going to see if I can get a couple of half whiskey barrels for the back deck to grow some yellow Finnish potatoes, I don't think the condo association would let us get away with anything less froo-froo!

I bought green vinyl chicken "wire" at Lowes - $12 for a 3' by 25' roll that I figure will make five potato bins which I'll hold together with ty-wraps.

At the risk of sounding like a goody-goody, I’ll say that my main goals will have to do with how I treat others rather than material provision for hard times. To care less about money, to become more generous when things get tough for others. And I mean to keep this separate from any Obama program.

I’m new to gardening, but please add me to your upcoming gardening list. I need to learn quickly!

Looking for property in the Bible Belt area conducive to stockpiling wood, gardening, etc., after ditching the house in S. California.

I sure wish I could join you. We had a great opportunity to move to the Missouri Ozarks area - and I was so sad when hubby didn't take the job.

We'll be moving to our tiny cabin (paid for) in the Sierras and trying to grow some crops, chickens, and rabbits. The snow will be the issue. Gold, silver, and swiss francs - and of course lots of lead, are our investments. And buckets of wheatberries, rice, and beans packed for long-term storage. I think I'm just about done getting ready. Time to sit back, read Atlas Shrugged, and wait.

It was broken in 2000 if not earlier. It's just that the left had an indisputably stupid candidate in Al Gore.
