President George W. Bush delivers a statement regarding the automobile industry Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, from the Roosevelt Room of the White House. Said the President, "Today, I'm announcing that the federal government will grant loans to auto companies under conditions similar to those Congress considered last week... By giving the auto companies a chance to restructure, we will shield the American people from a harsh economic blow at a vulnerable time. And we will give American workers an opportunity to show the world once again they can meet challenges with ingenuity and determination, and bounce back from tough times, and emerge stronger than before." Thanks for the ping, Snugs.
The one in this series with the former President and First Lady was when they were unwrapping their dog’s leash from around an Air Force officer (Colonel??). For some reason that struck a funny note with me. Maybe because I’ve had to unwrap our dogs’ leashes from around me, my husband, or anyone else within 50 feet a number of times. The little pooches don’t care how many insignias are on your shoulders.

Thanks so much for the 2008 recap. Such a lot of research and all done by a beautiful heart.
I’m lurking, although not posting a lot here. Keeping your dad in my prayers, too.

Your photos are making me tear up, snugs.
It's funny, until I saw your posts I hadn't felt emotion over the impending cha-a-nge in our leadership - except for disgust over all the high-flown empty rhetoric, the silly "New Declaration of Independence from ideology," the vapid comparisons to Lincoln, etc ad nauseum.
It's not just the end of the Bush administration, but the end of a lot of other things too, I guess. Things we held dear, like our constitutional republic and the rule of law, instead of the coming rule by mob.
It's going to be a tough four years. Thank God we have Free Republic. To paraphrase Ben Franklin: I hope we can keep it.
