Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, said Sunday that the lesson in Obama's rise to the White House is that black people shouldn't limit themselves or allow others to.
Wright had been Obama's longtime pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago before Obama quit the church and ended the relationship with Wright during the presidential campaign. Obama acted after the uproar over some of Wright's videotaped sermons, in which he blamed the U.S. for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, among other things.
Two days before Obama takes the oath of office, becoming the nation's first black president, Wright delivered an encouraging sermon during worship services at Howard University, urging those watching him from inside Crampton Auditorium, and two overflow rooms elsewhere on campus, to follow Obama's example and shrug off the negativity of others.
Wright said Obama would not be the president-elect had he listened to the voices of those who doubted whether he could win the caucuses in mostly white Iowa, the Democratic presidential nomination and the presidency itself.
Of Obama, he said the Lord had "stepped into his story and gave him a new attitude."
"The scrawny kid with the big ears and the funny name said, 'Yes, we can,'" said Wright, who for the past five years has delivered the sermon at Howard on the eve of the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday.
Obama, he said, had freed himself from "other people trying to put him in a prison, defining him as they saw him."
"No more seeing ourselves through the eyes of others who don't look like us," added Wright, now pastor emeritus at Trinity United. "We're now free and seeing ourselves through the eyes of a God who loves us and loves all of God's children equally."

Victimology is all they really have. What percentage of the vote would Obama have without the media and the ‘civil rights’ industry?
It looks like these guys will need to readjust their talking points, find new careers, or both. The excuse factory is now closed. It's a bit tough to propagate the myth that "the man" is holding you down when one of your own is "the man".
What a circus this will be for the next four years. Our enemies are laughing at us, breathing a huge sigh of relief that this unqualified media creation is now the commander in chief of our military. We are in for a rough ride.
Yep, the white man keeping minority poor folks down...
I searched the title, as we’re expected to do.
However after my 15 minutes delivery of my opinions about Nobama left everyone in literal STUNNED SILENCE!!
After an uncomfortable 5 minuted of silence in the van one lady spoke up saying that if she had know even 1 of these facts then she would have voted McCain and other quitely muttered the same sentiments.
I would say more on that incident but I suspect that it would compromise my identity on this board.
Obama, he said, had freed himself from "other people trying to put him in a prison, defining him as they saw him." "No more seeing ourselves through the eyes of others who don't look like us," added Wright
The rotted old bigot is still blamng Whitey. That's how he got his millions, and he's not going to change his tune at this late date. Racist hate still pays if you're a black pracher.
That’s more than enough info. Gotta protect your identity, hope you didn’t compromise it by saying as much as you did. Thanks.
Headline: “Rev. Wright says Obama’s election shows blacks shouldn’t accept limits from anyone”
If Rev. Wright had an ounce of sense he’d be demanding that blacks stop voting for Democrats!!! Democrats WANT to keep blacks down and they were the party that tried to keep blacks in slavery and didn’t want them to vote! Doesn’t the black community know their own history?! They have been voting for the same political party that WANTS to keep them down.
Yes, 2ndDivisionVet, it’s the cult of victimology and it needs to be done away with.
Obama ‘08, Biden ‘11! That’s after in 2010 when we get that corrupt crook out of the White House.
I told you all this in 1988!
Let us not forget the high percentage of black babies that are aborted. Of course that is something Obama supports. Don’t sound like change or hope to continue the killing of babies, white or black.
Sho' nuff Rev.
I hereby declare, no more early parole.
I live in Philadelphia and have easily noticed something for a long time. We have neighborhoods where the people are 95% black and others where the people are 95% white. If you drive through any “white neighborhood” from Noon to 5:00 P.M. on a weekday, the streets are virtually empty, except for people of retirement age and/or children. However, if you drive through a “black neighborhood” on any weekday, the streets and corners are filled with blacks in their 20’s and 30’s, usually with horrible grooming, numerous babies, and occasionally asking you if you want to buy drugs from them.
I know this looks horrible to read but I am NOT being racist. This is FACT in Philadelphia. Anyone with a car can do this experiment and see this in about 30 minutes. When will Obama, his preacher, or anyone in his cabinet come to these street corners and explain to these people that they can achieve anything if they went to school and got jobs? That will NEVER happen. Bill Cosby, who is from Philadelphia, tried to spread this truth and was blasted BY BLACKS for talking negatively about “his own people.”
When I go to my gym that is located in a shopping center, I can’t get from my car to the gym door without hearing a black person cursing loudly on his or her cell phone (again, in the middle of a weekday). Who is going to tell these people to get off of welfare and get a job so they can achieve anything? NO ONE. I can’t speak for the entire country but no white person is holding back the blacks that I see each day.
I sort of wandered off the original point here, but that’s my two cents.
Sadly...you stayed on point.
Thieves never see limits...
