Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, said Sunday that the lesson in Obama's rise to the White House is that black people shouldn't limit themselves or allow others to.
Wright had been Obama's longtime pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago before Obama quit the church and ended the relationship with Wright during the presidential campaign. Obama acted after the uproar over some of Wright's videotaped sermons, in which he blamed the U.S. for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, among other things.
Two days before Obama takes the oath of office, becoming the nation's first black president, Wright delivered an encouraging sermon during worship services at Howard University, urging those watching him from inside Crampton Auditorium, and two overflow rooms elsewhere on campus, to follow Obama's example and shrug off the negativity of others.
Wright said Obama would not be the president-elect had he listened to the voices of those who doubted whether he could win the caucuses in mostly white Iowa, the Democratic presidential nomination and the presidency itself.
Of Obama, he said the Lord had "stepped into his story and gave him a new attitude."
"The scrawny kid with the big ears and the funny name said, 'Yes, we can,'" said Wright, who for the past five years has delivered the sermon at Howard on the eve of the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday.
Obama, he said, had freed himself from "other people trying to put him in a prison, defining him as they saw him."
"No more seeing ourselves through the eyes of others who don't look like us," added Wright, now pastor emeritus at Trinity United. "We're now free and seeing ourselves through the eyes of a God who loves us and loves all of God's children equally."

What it shows is that the only way a black man can get elected President is by straight-arming the wacko nutcase far-left liberation theology pastors and black seperatists.
** ... (snip) ...explain who’s been keeping anyone back? **
Simple .. keeping them back... Wright, Sharpton, Jackson and to lesser degree so far .. NOBAMA.
As long as they keep pointing at evil WHITEY... they’ll NEVER be able to reach for their OWN STARS, and they’ll ALWAYS BE VICTIMS!!
Soon we will understand what that means....
The biggest thing “holding blacks back” is their OWN culture.
1)The lack of the preponderance of the nuclear family
2)Disdain for educational success, through hard work and sustained application.
3)Abject, foundational refusal of the concept of self-reliance and personal responsibility.
4) Lionizing racist chumps like Wright.
Tell it to Oprah and the vast majority of professional athletes.
True dat! They should start by refusing Affirmative Action.
I think Bill Cosby took a stab at telling them what’s been keeping them back a few years ago...as is Ms. Coulter today.
It’s called teens having babies out of wedlock and perpetuating the problem. Babes were meant to have a mother AND a father to raise them.
“You can’t touch me! I’m bl-ack! Obama will show you!”
Cue Cynthia McKinney.
Where’s that archived news report of this very thing happening AFTER the ‘selection’? I’ll have to dig it up.
welcome to the NSA
....including themselves and affirmative action.
Much to everyone surprise they hear me giving my strong objections to NoBama (they thought I was a democrat) and my resaoning was mainly on the line that the 3 main items he has already foresworn he will repeal was 1. Repeal the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) 2. Repeal the Dont Ask/Dont Tell in the military and 3. The signing of the Freedom of Choice Act.
When I pointed out that how the black families has been so ravished in the USA, there needs to be a very strong move to strenghten the black families
Also since Planned Parenthood selectively targeting the black communities and the majority of abortions are from there. Overall I tried to show them that they had been suckered by his charm & guile and all the while his policies are set to be the coup-de-grace for the black communities/familes.
Anyone who defines themselves as American first has my complete support and backing regardless of the triviality of race. Anyone who defines themselves as “African” (i.e. black) or anything else first can suffer in misery and then FOAD, as they almost certainly and deservedly will.
It means
"Si se puede!"
LOL!
How did they respond?
Actually, what he meant to say is it’s really easy to make idiot voters out of ignorant people by promising them lots of free stuff. But notice I didn’t say delivering, and that is the trick used by Democrats to keep people down for the longest time.
Hate mongers, like Rev Wright, always use “keeping people back” as their bogey man. Obviously Rev Wright knows little of the history of the Democrats and their KKK keeping people back.
Don’t forget all the victim-rappers partying at their multi-million-dollar cribs around their luxurious pools.
Many blacks keep themselves back, and because of that this is actually a decent message to send them, that the main thing keeping them back is themselves.
Sounds to me like the victimology has run its course.
The most “Reverend” Wright has pronounced it to be so! (No matter that opportunities have existed for a long time.)
No doubt Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are busy trying to figure out a new gig.
(Hope you are doing well 2ndDV.)
BTW, that “Search” button?
That’s your friend:
searching on “rev. Wright” for example, would have turned up this:
