Willie Brown: Reveling in inauguration buzz
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 1/18/9 | Willie Brown

Washington -- Everywhere you go, a piece of San Francisco follows you, and that goes double for the inauguration of Barack Obama.

I arrived here a couple of days early and booked myself into one of those new boutique hotels downtown. I went to check in and there was a big sign in the lobby: "Welcome Leather Daddies."

Fun as it might have been to hang around with the guys, I had left my chaps at home. Besides, I thought it better to move closer to the political action.

So the next day I moved over to the Westin near Georgetown, also known as Party Central.

No Leather Daddies at the Westin, but the lobby, like all of the hotel lobbies here this week, is absolutely overrun with children.

Everyone has brought their family with them.

Friday, the capital was buzzing. The offices of Sen. Dianne Feinstein and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were especially frantic because that's where everyone was picking up inaugural event tickets.

The only other office that came close to Dianne's or Nancy's in terms of action was that of Roland Burris, the new senator from Illinois.

A week ago half the town was trying to keep him out. Now everyone is falling all over themselves to see him. That's how it is in Washington: One day you are a pawn, the next day you're a prince.

Ran into our attorney general, Jerry Brown, Friday night. Our old mutual friend Melissa Moss had a fundraiser for him at her Georgetown home. It was like a reunion of the people from all of Jerry's presidential runs. Everyone was there, including CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

(this should have had a major barf alert) -— I have been watching this liberal street thug in Taxifornia for decades of my voting and political-awareness life. Just another maggot enjoying the rotting carcass of Taxifornia.

“Willie’s Thoughts”

They can be interesting at times. Now retired from politics, he seems to be giving his unvarnished opinion.

Unfortunately, it’s 60% about Willie living large. As if the reader is supposed to be impressed by his name-dropping and four-star accomodations. Throw in a few fashionista opinions and he could be writing for Vanity Fair.

Some people who grow up poor and succeed want to help others. Some people who grow up poor and succeed just live to wallow in luxury.
