Hog wash, go to a state college or university...they are cheep.
Thank you! My son is going to college this fall. He will stay in state and we will pay for it. What ever happened to your kid getting a job to help pay for it? There are also thousands of scholarships available.
Not as cheap as they once were. I paid my own way through college by working. NO loans.
I’m not so sure that can be done today.
Yes, why doesn’t the author consider University of Connecticut, since she live in Connecticut?
Total tuition, room, board, and fees at the main campus: $18,842.
Total tuition and fees at satellite campuses: $7,754. (Have the kid commute from home.)

(I do agree with her main argument that college costs are out of control, but she seems to be limiting her possibilities to private universities.)
Get the first two years out of the road at a community college. Even cheaper.
Agree (btw, corrected your spelling of cheep to cheap so not to embarrass we state college alum's).
This guy's son can go to a state school like I did. While going to school he can work a night shift at a truck stop like I did. When he graduates from high school he can join the army and utilize the GI bill like I did. Bottom line, tell the little punk to go figure out on his own how to get it done and stop the whining - same thing for his old man.
Ditto on the hogwash.
D # 2 did real well in school, # 2 in the class, got a couple of acidemic scholarships, some federal student aid loans and some cash from us.
Hard work and a little savings is all it takes.
Just do it.
The community colleges offer a great education. Many go for two years before switching to a four year college.
Make that cheap and I agree.
College is only as expensive as this article says if you want to go to an expensive private college.
Hogwash yourself. Have you paid for a state university education lately??? Cheap relative to prestige private schools only. Without massive savings or help, they’ll still financially cripple the average middle class family.
but we never had enough money to save.....we had bills and kids to feed and we tried to put some money away for retirement because we weren't going to get a nice civil service pension.....and look how the retirement crap has worked out.....geesh....
but what is doable for kids is simply having them take out whatever loans they can, and supplement that every month......it can be done if they go to a state college....
philosophically....a college degree is meaningless however, unless one has some skill training and ambition
