Because of a downturn in donations and losses related to the Bernard Madoff scandal, Planned Parenthood's national office has laid off about one-fifth of its staff.
According to the federally funded abortion provider, the layoff affected about 30 people. The cuts came following last month's closure of the Florida-based Picower Foundation, which shut down because its assets -- totaling nearly $1 billion -- were managed by Madoff but lost in his alleged Ponzi scheme. Picopower was a major contributor to Planned Parenthood.
While Jim Sedlak of STOPP International regrets anyone losing their job, he suggests the country is better off for what has happened to the largest abortion provider in the country.
"With the amount of money that [Planned Parenthood] takes in, and with the amount of profit that they make, they don't need the taxpayer funding that they are getting," says the pro-life leader.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a billion-dollar business, receiving millions in taxpayer dollars as a nonprofit organization that actually makes a large profit. The business reported profits of nearly $115 million last year.
Jim Sedlak suggests that the people approving those monies take that into account. "This ought to be the time when Congress cuts out all money to Planned Parenthood -- and all of the local governments and the state governments [should] do the same thing," he says.
The pro-life activist is convinced Americans do not want tax dollars spent for abortion. "[Planned Parenthood is] an organization that not only kills over a quarter of a million babies a year, but harms the body and the soul of teenagers through their atrocious sex-education programs," he points out.
Planned Parenthood was but one of the Florida entities that benefited from the Picopower Foundation. Others included the Palm Beach County School District, the South Florida Science Museum, and United Way.
pro-life ping for your lists
No doubt they’ll be lining up for their share of TARP money as well.
These staff cuts are only temporary. They will be re-hired after the enactment of Barack Obama’s baby killer bailout.
Altogether now...hip hip hooray!
No problem, the lib/dems will pass FOCA - thereby increasing federal funding for abortion. It’s your money....
Is this officially on the legislative agenda? When are hearings or vote?
While quite a few Dems would love to have FOCA passed, and Obama would doubtless sign it if presented, I seriously doubt he will waste any political capital on it. Admittedly I am projecting what I suspect Obama thinks, but his economic plan has to come first. Trying to pass FOCA would sow chaos in Congress. Conservatives would demand Republicans filibuster the bill forever. Any chance Obama had at establishing a working majority would be gone. Obama would be unable to do what he thinks he must do - pass an enormous stimulus package.
B.O. promised FOCA Planned Parenthood.
BTTT!
National Planned Parenthood Fires 20 Percent Of Staff After Madoff Scandal
Vote is January 21, I believe.
Dems who voted against partial-birth abortion will have a tough time jusifying a yes vote on this, not to mention all the phonies who ran as “pro-life Democrats.”
