TICKFAW, La. -- Investigators in Tangipahoa Parish said they arrested three suspects wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery in Tickfaw on Jan. 4.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said the robbery occurred in the early morning hours at a home at 46440 Drake Road.

Authorities said witnesses at the residence were awakened to the sounds of gun fire and raced into the living area and saw at least two men wearing black clothing and facemasks wrestling with the homeowner.

Witnesses told deputies that one of the intruders shot the homeowner at least three times with a handgun. The suspects then fled from the scene in a vehicle.

While additional deputies were en route to the scene of the robbery, Authorities said deputies Dustin McDonald and Nicholas Bruhn observed a white vehicle disregard a stop sign on Durbin Road at the intersection of Highway 1064. The deputies stopped the car and discovered that the vehicle was occupied by James Wise, Michael Ruffin and Kenyatta Fleet.

Investigators said upon stopping the vehicle, Fleet and one of his passengers quickly exited wearing white t-shirts and appeared to be nervous and sweaty. Deputies also noticed what appeared to be blood spots on one of the men's shirts.

Deputies said they recovered several pieces of black clothing and two hand guns from within the vehicle. Additional black clothing and a mask were also recovered from the roadway leading to the traffic stop on Durbin Road, authorities said.

Investigators said the three men were charged with aggravated burglary, conspiracy and attempted 1st degree murder. Fleet was also charged with failure to stop at a stop sign.

Authorities said the victim was transported to New Orleans Medical Center for immediate treatment and was later released with non-life threatening injuries.

Folks, home invasion robberies are becoming lots more commonplace. This isn't a brand new tactic used by violent criminals, but where home invasion robberies used to be peculiarly limited to certain ethnic groups in specific geographic locations such as Latinos in the SouthWest USA and Asians in the NorthEast USA, this style of robbery has gone mainstream across the nation.

These style of robberies are only going to increase. Plan appropriately. Dialing 911 simply will not cut it.

That failure to stop at a stop sign was the kicker. I wonder if he will have to go to traffic school after he finishes his sentence.

If horse theft was once a hanging offense, home invasion should be as well!

It doesn't matter if they're black, white, brown, red, yellow, green, or orange....rope is cheap!

I agree, home invasion needs to be taken very seriously.
