As women get older, lighter hair is supposed to make facial lines less obvious, and it also disguises thinning hair (blends in better with scalp). No idea when Ann began dying her hair or what the natural color is, but that’s the usual rationale behind women 35-40+ lightening their hair. (As for why those who don’t go blonde go ‘barbecue sauce red’-just credit that to bad taste or poor color perception. Never saw anyone look good with that shade of red.)
