NEW YORK Federal investigators said both engines are missing from the US Airways jetliner that ditched into the Hudson River as reports emerged that the pilot who safely landed the aircraft had considered an emergency landing at two airports. Police divers were using sonar to find the engines, which was believed to be in the water.
As investigators scoured the wreckage of the Airbus A320, many of the 155 people aboard recounted survivor stories and hailed the pilot as a hero who delivered them from certain death.
The pilot, Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III, was in good spirits and showing no outward signs of stress from the ordeal, a pilots union official said.

Now that there’s funny.
The engines hit the water just after the body of the plane. The engines are designed to come off when they hit something.
When hit by something going 160MPH water is very hard and will knock the engines off the plane.
The birds ruined the rotors inside the engines so they stopped producing output. The water in the river tore the engines off the plane... just as it was supposed to do.
LOL. Sick joke. I like it.
This aircraft had CFM56-5B4 engines. Operative word: “had”
No, but you can get some here for around $3,200 each. (Don't know if they're the same ones the jet-boot guy uses...)
People's ingenuity never ceases to amaze me.
I think DeHavilland installed one of those gremlins in every plane that rolled off the production line.
Which are produced in a partnership of GE and some French company.
Howdy!

What morons are reporters....
LMAO.
Who writes this crap?
Where else could they be?
"Yes, officer, I'm sure; that's not a jet engine. That's a planter I bought last year for my front yard..."
Is there a pushbutton on the dash labeled ...Jettison the engines?
ROFL!!!
God only knows what else they may find on the bottom there. a dumping ground for many years.
In flight, at altitude? I don't think so.
It is amazing that some need a tutorial....
LOL! Understatement of the year!
so who knows where they dropped off.
Hey, I asked an innocent question, and said I didn’t anything about the subject. If that makes you laugh, good. There were several informative answers that probably helped others.
