U.S. anti-drug information leaked to Mexico cartels

Corrupt officials inside Mexico's security forces have leaked U.S. anti-drugs intelligence directly to drug traffickers to help them escape raids, a senior U.S. law enforcement agent said.

A recent anti-corruption sweep showed the infiltration of Mexican police forces had reached alarming levels, with several high-ranking investigators and a presidential guardsman arrested for selling information to drug cartels.

The U.S. agent said the arrests were an encouraging sign that Mexico's government is serious about stopping drug gangs from getting their hands on intelligence, some of which comes from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, or DEA.

"There have been occurrences where we have shared information and then found that the information we shared was compromised, given, provided, leaked to the very targets that were being investigated," the official told Reuters

"There is no infallible system when you are talking about a $65 billion enterprise. Money talks," he said, referring to the estimated size of Mexico's drug trade.

Among those arrested last year were Mexico's liaison to Interpol as well as the country's organized crime chief Noe Ramirez, who is accused of taking at least $450,000 to pass secrets to crime gangs.

Chertoff: Military ready if drug gangs cross border Homeland Security plan also accounts for possible border surge by refugees fleeing the violence.

[snip] Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Wednesday that federal SWAT teams and military units are prepared to respond to Mexican drug gangs in the event they cross the Rio Grande and confront U.S. law officers.

The forces, another department official said, also stand ready to manage any surge to the border by Mexicans panicked by the cartels’ violence. The second department official said federal forces were prepared to respond to ``a number of different contingencies’’ ranging from cross-border raids or kidnappings by Mexican drug gangs to refugees storming the border. ``The plan can be scaled to the emergency,’’ the official said.

“country’s organized crime chief Noe Ramirez, who is accused of taking at least $450,000 to pass secrets to crime gangs”

This guy is either the village idiot or the figure is drastically wrong...by at least a ten-fold.

Yes...the Merida Initiative sure benefited the cartels...

I would not trust the Mexican police in the fight on the cartels. So many of the police have been already been bought...and I wouldnt be surprised if Bush’s Merida money has been redistributed to the cartels

If we would just legalize drugs, these people would just go back to cutting lawns and repairing roofs.

“If we would just legalize drugs, these people would just go back to cutting lawns and repairing roofs.”

.....and stealing identities, driving drunk, human smuggling-prostitution, welfare fraud....

Sorry, drugs aren’t the ONLY problem with our ‘visitors’

Hey, not to worry! Hussein’s UN ambassador designate has said we are going to get tough with Mugabe - the 80-something loon who runs Zimbabwe. This will, without doubt, put the fear of the Almighty into the hearts of Mexican murderers and Iranian terror masters. They will be beating a hasty retreat very soon now. All is well. Trust in The One.

It SOUNDS good. I'm not so sure it will work out “good.” Who's going to be the first one to fire on the “surge” or the cartels??? I'm thinking most of our men and women in uniform would be loathe to spend any time at Leavenworth. I have to say, I'm a bit leery of AG Holden, Sec. of State Clinton and CIA Chief Paterno. I'm thinking I'll take the first shot right after one of them does. SPECIFIC Rules of Engagement (for every contingency) are going to have to become the routine. No one gets creative...certainly not those who will be offered up as a sacrifice to the God of Secularism and PC.

Looking for an honest Mexican politician is almost as bad as searching for an honest politician in Washington DC.

Drugs will never be legalized. There is too much money involved. When the national and internation bankers rely on an illegal cash crop or illegal products sale to repay their loans, that process must be protected, albet nurtured. With this in mind an occasional leak is to be expected. The money derived from drugs goes too far into our system, our economy, our way of life to ever be eliminated. We have our witch hunts, and spend billions in the name of enforcement, but when we get too close to really accomplishing anything, actually upholding the law....well.....ask the two Border Patrol agents Ramos and Campeon what happens.
