I will offer some gallows humor as I am a way-too-frequent flier. Tasteless, and opportunistic, but I’ll go for it.
I guess the folks on the wings are waiting for USAIR to deliver their bags?
Actually, a water landing on a (relatively) smooth body of water is far more survivable than most any off-runway hard surface landing.
If everyone was properly belted in, their prospects for safety are really quite good.
Again, prayers for all involved and praise for the New Yorkers who will do anything and everything to rescue all aboard.
The initial landing is, but if the thing sinks immediately or cartwheels everyone dies - plus the rescue workers often have problems getting to the site. This time they got lucky.
Especially when the PIC puts it down a couple of blocks from one of the biggest passenger ferry bases in the world.
