You are right about that, plus anyone in the water, at that temperature, for over a few minutely will be incapacitated. I was thinking Air Florida flight 90, which crashed into the Potomac on takeoff at Washington, DC on January 13, 1982, when I first saw the report. Someone had an angel on their shoulder.
The Air Florida Flight crashed. This one landed. Landing on calm water (as opposed to choppy ocean water) isn't really that difficult for a professional pilot.
