Roland Burris is now officially a U.S. senator. The Illinois Democrat was sworn-in by Vice President Dick Cheney Thursday at a Capitol Hill ceremony. His new colleagues in the Senate chamber responded with applause.
He takes his Senate seat alongside fellow Democrats who initially turned him away, and who had vowed not to seat anyone appointed by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
The governor, who's been impeached by state lawmakers, is accused of trying to sell the Senate seat that had been held by President-elect Barack Obama.
Burris is now being given a polite welcome by Democrats, who say they never had anything against him personally.

Aawww shucks..., I was hoping for some more drama from the Democrats... :-)
The alternative is a special election. dems don’t want to risk that.
In Illinois? With Obama campaigning for whoever the Democrats ran? No risk to that at all.
Blago’s been thrown under the bus by the msm. dims generally have short memories and limited cognitive skills but this is still fresh. An election could backfire.
An elections impossible at this stage anyway. Bagojevich made the appointment under the law. They can’t change the law and deny Burris is spot once he’s been appointed.
He legally appointed a US Senator. I agree. I was simply referring to the inevitability of the appointee’s acceptance.
Its funny how they don’t mention Harry Reid. Harry promised to fight this all the way. Did Harry run out of steam or did he just call Blago to “fix” things?

PROFILE: BOBBY RUSH:
* Democratic Member of Congress
* Member of the radical Progressive Caucus
* In 1968, went AWOL from the U.S. Army
* Co-founder of the Illinois branch of the Black Panther Party
* In 1969, served six months in jail for an illegal weapons conviction
* Advocates reparations for African Americans
"Bobby Rush has described his involvement with the Black Panthers as part of his maturation process, as a youthful indiscretion that he abandoned immediately after Hampton's death. He described his role mostly as running the Black Panther Party's Free Breakfast for Children program.
But Bobby Rush served six months in jail for a 1969 illegal weapons conviction and, even after his release, in 1971 his comrades were still describing him as the 'Deputy Minister of Defense' for the Black Panther Party in Illinois. In 1992 the socialist magazine In These Times praised fledgling congressional candidate Rush, writing that he 'has continued to support progressive policies and has never disavowed his Panther past...."

From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROES
"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo.
Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.
The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."
To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

Actually this will be good for Repubs. Burris will turn into a poster boy for democrat corruption and fixes.
The nation just elected a poster boy President. The electorate is beyond my ability to assume at this point. I don’t watch Springer, Ellen, or American Idol so I can’t really relate to the base stupidity.
You continue to provide great research for FR. Thanks.
You’re welcome, I’m glad you appreciate it.
For some reason this feels like a setup....
I am somewhat familiar with Chicago pols having lived there many years. Burris has one thing going for him...no smell of corruption.
