The Elephant in the Room: McCain may be Obama's secret weapon
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 2009-01-15

A desire by both men to secure their places in history might forge an unlikely pairing.

BY RICK SANTORUM

Obama also faces the reality of needing at least one Republican senator to join him to break filibusters. Many speculate that three moderate Republicans will provide the necessary Senate votes and the imprimatur of bipartisanship.

. . . . .

But I believe Obama has an ace in the hole among Senate Republicans. This unlikely ace can deliver not only the GOP moderates needed to break a filibuster, but also the stamp of bipartisanship: the 2008 GOP standard bearer, John McCain.

. . . . .

In McCain's mind, however, losing the presidency will not be the final chapter of his life story. He knows the path to "Big Media" redemption. Working with the man who vanquished him in November will show them all the real McCain again.

All of McC's dumb campaign moves seemed designed to radically reset Repub Party values:

(1) Suspending his campaign to return to D.C. to make a complete ass of himself over the bailout;

(2) McC stupidly "reaching across the aisle" to Dims with mob proclivities waiting to kneecap him;

(3) going on broadcast TV to whine that Obaba "broke his promise" about campaign financing. Clueless McC did not understand what a ninny he looked like to Repubs----believing a Dim would keep a promise. McC's whining made him look like a useful tool of Obaba.

(4) falling hook line and sinker for LIEberman's "bi-partisan" con game. LIEberman was at McC's side as LIEb wrote a $100,00 check to the Dims so as not to lose his Dim bona fides. "User LIEberman" shadowed McC at every turn making sure McC read from the punkneo script;

(5) McC reading out his own supporter for dissing Obaba.

They may have been working together all along. Remember McCain's response to a critic of 0bama? He's an honest, honorable guy, he'd make a good president, nothing to be afraid of.

Then, McCain putting Palin up as a target, so 0bama et al could focus on trashing her every ten seconds, without trying to lay a glove on McCain. McCain in turn spent a lot of time criticizing republicans, especially those running for office.

Now this, McCain may be 0bama’s ace-in-the-hole with his reach-across-the-aisle efforts. Not that the dems need the pubbies at all.

Perhaps that's why the press was always suggesting McCain's candidacy?

No, No, NO. Until we can stop Lib voter fraud (”early” voting, “absentee” voting, Acorn), we will win nothing. Don’t be distracted.

Screw the Republican party - it is a nightmare and not a party . The Conservative Party the way to go methinks .

It won't happen for a long time, and the RNC leadership know it.

They knew many of the 'complainers' would still vote for their nominee -- McCain -- and many of them held their noses and did just that.

Why change? The GOP seem very happy being in minority status. They worked 8 years to make that happen.

If the GOP re-nominated McCain or Dole or GHWB, the loyalists would still vote the party. [What's that definition of instanity?]

>> For it to be a “secret” weapon, doesn’t it have to be a secret first?

And doesn't it have to be a weapon?

McCain is a dud.

Not me, I did not vote for the POS Lindsey and called his office many times to let him know that he is wrong and I will not vote for the POS.

I think that if McCain hadn’t been running against Obama, he’d have stood shoulder to shoulder with Powell in endorsing Obama.

Is there a true conservative in Arizona that could run against McCain. His career is coming to an end....

I believe FR and some other sites accurately stated that John McCain was the Democrat selection for Republican candidate.

States really must cease to allow open primaries. Democrats should select their candidate and Republicans theirs. Independents by nature of their registration need have no voice in primaries.
