Ga. state senator wants ACORN's tax exempt status revoked

ATLANTA - Georgia State Sen. Jeff Mullis, a Republican from Chickamauga, has filed legislation urging the IRS to revoke the tax exempt status from the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, more commonly known as ACORN, after numerous reports that the organization falsified voter records leading up to the 2008 elections.

“An organization that chooses to undermine the integrity of our nation’s election process should not be entitled to tax exemption benefits,” said Sen. Mullis. “The excessive amount of evidence against ACORN engaging in fraudulent activity demands that the organization to be held accountable for taking advantage of hardworking taxpayers, and I call on the IRS to ensure that justice is executed in this case.”

The controversy surrounding ACORN seemed to die down after the Nov. 4 election, when Barack Obama won by a wide margin. But, according to MSNBC, Obama "has long ties to ACORN." The ACORN political action committee also endorsed Obama for president.

Several ACORN workers were found guilty of faking registration forms and others are being investigated.

The Associated Press reported that ACORN hired more than 13,000 hourly workers to register 1.3 million voters in minority and poor neighborhoods in 21 states in 2008. But some of the registrations included names like "Donald Duck" and those of professional football players.

Sen. Mullis is calling on the IRS and the Secretary of the Treasury to launch an extensive investigation into ACORN’s voter registration activities.

Somehow, I can't picture the Øbama IRS pulling the tax exempt status from ACORN…OTOH, I can see an audit in State Senator Mullis' near future…

the only way to deal with these people is to have state AGs and local DAs and prosecutors torment them out of existence.

I sure hope he’s successful! There is video that shows an ACORN meeting endorsing BHO. Isn’t that against the rules for a Tax Exempt, non profit?

We need a Republican effort to elect Republican Sec’s of State to correct the cheating of the Dems in 2008. Does anyone have Soros-type money to buy some Sec’s of State for us poor Pubbies? I would love to see ACORN held accountable. Sadly we all know that only Conservatives are held accountable. Dems can be appointed to the Cabinet with lots of law breaking and shady dealing. Just watch the hearings for 0bama’s Cabinet. Disgusting double standard.

My recommend investigating ACORN with a microscope and then prosecuting the perps and jail time for all of them.

Absolutely. Until people like ACORNoids find themselves in prison for fixing elections like the one in MN, they will continue on their path.

People in other states should do the exact same thing. Then congressional republicans should investigate the IRS’s policy on audits. Persistence.

There are corrupted political appointees in the DOJ on both sides.

Gotta start local and make it a nationwide effort.

ACORN refuses to acknowledge the role that it and the Community Reinvestment Act---CRA----played in the current crisis on Wall Street, and as recently as Jan. 21, 2008 Obama said in a candidates' debate that the CRA should be more strictly enforced.

Liberals, who reflexively defend ACORN, have twisted themselves into rhetorical pretzels while defending the catastrophic economic egalitarianism of the Community Reinvestment Act---CRA.

An ardent proponent of the CRA, ACORN benefactor, community organizer/trainer Barack H. Obama, Esq, contributed to the increasingly hostile environment for banks when he represented the plaintiffs in the 1995 class action lawsuit Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank. The suit demanded that the bank grant mortgages to an equal percentage of minority and non-minority mortgage applicants. The bank settled the case three years later and reportedly agreed to beef up its lending to unqualified applicants.

In some cases food stamps were deemed an income gauge for getting mortgages.

Illegals were not asked for proofs of employment or citizenship---if they could print the fake name of one of their stolen identities, they got 100% mortgages. They promptly flipped the houses with higher and higher mortgages to family members. They then defaulted and absconded to Mexico with piles of money.......leaving US taxpayers and banks holding the bag.
