President Bush tonight awarded Americas highest civilian honour to Tony Blair in a ceremony at the White House.
The outgoing President said Mr Blair was a true friend of the United States before hanging the Presidential Medal of Freedom around his neck.
The former Prime Minister stood in front of the President as the medal was bestowed upon him. He will stand tall in history, President Bush said.

Ok, he stood firm the US, and rightly so after the 9/11 attacks, and the aftermath following it.
Blair will not be remembered so fondly in the UK for his achievements at home.
Under the direction of Blair, the UK was sold deeper, and almost irreversibly down the river into a Communist Europe.
The idiot Brown who was left at the helm when Bl(ia)r left for his temporary Middle East payday (until he is called for nomination for the EU Presidency), has taken Liberal Socialism, fiscal irresponsibility and Liberal dictatorship to a new level.
To digress, for supporting the US after a terrible terrorist attack, he maybe deserves that medal, for the continued destruction to Britain and the British way of life, he deserves to be tried for treason, along with his Shrek lookalike successor.

I would personally be happy to help out. I’m not British, but he’s raped the Brits financially and culturally.

Yah, the support after 9/11 was THE BEST thing he did during his leadership, it was commendable. He left the UK in a disaster.

While I agree with most of the sentiment in your comments, I must point out in fairness that Blair was at the helm when ‘The Troubles’, or the war in Northern Ireland, was brought to an end. 3 decades of conflict was concluded by reintegrating the Eye Arr Ay into a political process within which they couldn’t afford to act as they had done so in the past.
So, in my books, such an act is above and beyond party politics and is recognising as one of the defining achievements of his premiership.

He was humorous sometimes too, like in this speech before Congress:
“”...Senator Frist was kind enough to show me the fireplace where, in 1814, the British had burnt the Congress Library. I know this is kind of late, but- ‘Sorry’.”

Hi Mercia.
He is a good mediator, and he did bring Sinn Fein to the table to form an alliance in Ireland, but as far as Britain is concerned, he just gave ground to terrorist demands, which any other PM could have done since Margaret Thatcher with pretty much similar results.
Everyone in the UK was sick of Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams anyway, including many, many people in Ireland (My Father, and all his ascendants are from Dublin, Ballymena-Co. Antrim and Co. Eire) and to be honest, apart from the media campaigns, many people in Ireland wanted a political resolution, the radicals, and the DUP were the only ones holding back.
Blair was the right man at the right time for the Good Friday Agreement, Kudos for his mediation skills with Sinn Fein, although we'll never know the secret concessions to Gerry Adams!

Is this a cherished award in the opinion of US folk?
To: bethybabes69
Yes, it’s considered a great honor.

TAKE A LOOK HERE for one of Tony Blair's' many covert plans he carried out in his decade long destruction of British values and British Politics.
