A new government regulation scheduled to take effect next month has thousands of retailers, thrift stores and small businesses worried they will be forced to permanently close their doors and destroy their merchandise.
The law is expected to have such a devastating impact that Feb. 10 is now unofficially known as "National Bankruptcy Day."
Congress passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, or HR 4040, a retroactive rule mandating that all items sold for use by children under 12 must be tested by an independent party for lead and phthalates, which are chemicals used to make plastics more pliable.

This subject has been discussed here before and I seem to recall that some allowance has been made to ameliorate the impact.
Another law that went through without anyone actually reading it and understanding what they voted for.
Oh Well: They will say it sounded good when it was presented.
So many threads here are commented on without reading the post, and it really hurts nothing. When law makers vote on things they haven’t read the consequences can be devastating.
Jan. 20 is financial doomsday. A perfect storm.
And NO ONE cares!!!! We are going to allow it, regardless of the fact that he is an illegal alien AND a Socialist, and we are going to sit back & allow it to happen. Every one of us here might as well go find the nearest Founding Father grave and piss on it. That's what we are doing with our inaction.
This post is hyperbolic crap.
Perhaps, but it makes the base issue no less relevant. You see, it may not be “financial doomsday”, but we ARE quickly headed down the Socialist Road, and everything that happens in Washington, on the Dem or Pubbie side, is done to reach that end. And we, the people of the United States, don’t give a $PIT. We are going to let it happen.
Hey guyz, c’mon knock it off. This is for the good of the chilren. What’s wrong with you?
