HOUSTON (AP) — President George W. Bush told a group of Texas reporters Friday that he regretted immigration policies were not reformed while he was in office.

"I'm very disappointed that it didn't pass," he said in an interview with correspondents from his home state. "I'm very worried about the message that said, 'Republicans are anti-immigrant.'"

Japan obviously has enough pride where illegal immigration is not tolerated. I hear there are some in construction and food services but the number is minuscule compared to the United States

The Republicans lost the election, not because of Obama, but in spite of him.

THe reasons:

John McCain was a lousy Republican and a luosy candidate and ran a lousy campaign

George Bush II had alienated both conservatives and moderates by his policies on many issues

John McCain was a lousy Republican and a luosy candidate and ran a lousy campaign

The economy tanked big time around the time of the campaign and the Republican Administration was blamed

John McCain was a lousy Republican and a luosy candidate and ran a lousy campaign

Gas priced came down - just at the wrong time as Obama opposes drilling in America

John McCain was a lousy Republican and a luosy candidate and ran a lousy campaign

The media and the educational institutions conspired to brainwash their pupils

John McCain was a lousy Republican and a luosy candidate and ran a lousy campaign

and, finally,

John McCain was a lousy Republican and a luosy candidate and ran a lousy campaign

“As far as I’m concerned, “conservatives” like yourselves were no better than DNC operatives. When GWB, the Republican Party, and this nation needed support the most, you turned your backs on them.”

I think you are suffering from acute intellectual myopia.

“Bush’s tax cut would be revoked.

His No Child Left Behind would be gutted (except for the money to the schools) guaranteeing ignorance from public school graduates.

The Medicare plan would drop private company’s participation and be totally government run and funded, just as Gore wanted.

There would be no chance for additional conservative judges to be appointed for any level, much less the Supreme Court.”

All of this is going to happen precisely due to Bush II’s ineptitude. His own poor ratings in the polls together with the inappropriateness of the Republican nominee and the miserable campaign he ran contributed to Obama’s victory more than anything else.

And keep in mind who Bush II wanted to appoint to SCOTUS after he put in Roberts - the totally unqualified and unknown personal buddy of his Harriet Miers. Only a massive public outcry from people like US who were not Bushbots put Alitto on the SCOTUS

“llegal immigrants would be given amnesty and citizenship, guaranteeing Dem control of many southwestern states. No wall, no nothing!”

You’re joking, right?? Bush II more than any other modern President is responsible for the invasion of America from across the Mexican Border. He actively conspired with his buddies Fox and Caulderone to violate our immigration laws.
Ask border guards Ramos and Compean, sitting in solitary confinement because they shot a drug dealing drug lord who was also an illegal invader and Bush II’s puppet Sutton PERSECUTED them for it. No amnesty for them.

“America would turn tail and run from Iraq, making OBL very happy, and letting the rest of the Muslim world know we are the wimps OBL says we are.”

Don’t even go there. We never should have committed ourselves to making a purse out of a sow’s ear in Iraq. We should have moved right out after taking out Saddam and his military.

“Iran will get a nuclear weapon.”

If we moved on to support the rioting students in Iran after we took out Saddam, instead of nation-building, this probably wouldn’t be a problem. By the way, the Bush II Administration specifically nixed an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities just a few weeks ago. Check it out in the archives here in this forum.

“Israel would be abandoned in favor of Palestine.”

Bush has been a very weak friend of Israel’s A few summers ago, he and the ruler of Israel blew their chances to take out Hezbollah in southern Jordan when they had them pinned down for a slaughter. Bush and his administration, through his surrogate and long-time family pal (funny how those family connections keep getting int he way of qualified candidates?) Condi Rice recognized the butcher state of Palestine, and lacking a personal direct appeal to Bush II by Olmert, Rice was fully prepared to vote for a U.N. resolution condemning Israel for attacking Gaza a few days ago.

(Amazing what I can learn from this forum!!)

“No new refineries, no nuclear plants, no drilling for oil or gas in the continental US would be allowed.

Labor unions will be running homeland security.”

Yup. Again, because Obama won the election in 2008, which was the victory Bush’s ineptness contributed to.

(By the way, the original ban on off shore drilling by executive order was issued by Bush I, and Bush II only lifted it well after gasoline prices - and voter tempers - had skyrocketed, helping ease the recession forward, and Republican defeats onwards in 2008.)

“No true conservative could allow a Dem win in November”

I voted for McNutjob, contributed to his campaign and worked on his campaign locally - not because I liked McNutjob, (I voted for Duncan Hunter in the Primary) but because I didn’t want a Democrat in the White House.

“You made the wrong choice “

No. You made the wrong assumption.

Now stop arguing with me and start working for a conservative candidate in 2010 for Congress and a real conservative in 2012 for President. And stay away from political PACs set up by McNutjob.

And remember, just say “No” to any more Bushes.

Correct. If we let the leftist hang the label “Conservative” on one of the most inept Presidents in history, America is finished.

When GWB, the Republican Party, and this nation needed support the most, you turned your backs on them.

One question: who turned their backs on who?

Personally, on balance, I remain a GWB supporter. He was right on the one issue that defined his presidency -- the War on Terror.

However, over his last two years, virtually every policy he has pursued was directly opposed to the policies his own voters supported.

Why shouldn't that leave us unhappy?

Heck, even McStain was trying to tell us he was a true Conservative.

What these guys have done in the name of Conservatism, amounted to little more than political suicide for the (leftist) cause. Scratching my head...

Some people don't get it. If the US is going to fail, make it quick. Anything else is prolonging the agony. The failure will cause the changes that you can believe in because the failure will be apparent to any fool. The emperor will have no clothes.

A conservative turning his back on Bush had a good chance of getting a knife in it.

For the record, Duh-bya turned his back on America when, in 1999 he uttered, "There ought to be limits to freedom."

Everything else he's done has been in support of that statement.

Please go away now, you are irrelevant.

Sorry, bucko. I was hear long before you arrived and will still be here long after you've gone.

The Republican Party had six years of control of the Federal Government. Instead of actually following through on promises made (e.g., the Contract with America) the most visible members of the Party tried to ram through amnesty for illegals, expanded the Federal Government's reach with Medicare Part D and other Socialist programs, and did nothing to reform Social Security or the tax code.

Actually, Duh-bya did try to reform Social Security in 2004, just not in the way most Americans would've wished.

On June 29, 2004 Bush's appointed Social Security Commissioner signed the Social Security Totalization Agreement with Mexico.

Under the terms of this agreement Mexican illegal aliens would be eligible to apply for and receive US Social Security retirement benefits after having worked (illegally) in the US for only 6 quarters. (18 months) In contrast, US citizens (read: you and I) have to work for 40 quarters (10 years) before we'r eligible to apply.

Additionally, the Mexican illegal alien could apply for and receive US Social Security benefits for his Mexican (national) wife and children, even if they've never stepped foot in the USA.

Yup. That Duh-bya. Always looking out for America'a best interests. </sarcasm>

Illegal immigration was the only issue during the 2008 campaign that would have differentiated the GOP from the RATS and the GOP f’ed it up by betting on the wrong horse. We are so screwed. Thank God my children will grow up speaking Chinese. There may actually be a future there. The US is headed for third world status in short order.
