President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to issue an executive order his first week in office -- and perhaps his first day -- to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to two presidential transition team advisers.
It's unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon. In an interview last weekend, Obama said it would be "a challenge" to close it even within the first 100 days of his administration.
But the order, which one adviser said could be issued as early as Jan. 20, would start the process of deciding what to do with the estimated 250 Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there. Most have not been charged with a crime.

Big Mistake—Where’s he going to send the prisoners? Back to their homelands so they can terrorize again, take revenge on those who might have turned them in or get on the bandwagon for the next 9-11? Where’s is he going to house the next round of possible terrorists—city jails? Announcement of closure is not the most important part—what’s the plan, bro?
Why don’t they send them all to the White House at 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue? Then zero and his buddies can all “hang out” with each other.
They should send all the detainees to K Street in DC to join the homeless - if they act fast they could give them special seats of honor near the Capital steps. As it is I imagine they’ll cut them loose with airfare to Santa Monica, California. Free shelters and food with plenty of tourists to rob and kill...
I hope there won’t be a huge exodus from intel and military services but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is one. Who would want to work under the libscum like Obambi and the AG nominee Holder, people who will throw you to the Code Pink wolves at any moment? I hope we can keep enough good people out of their sense of patriotism but why should they risk their entire future for the libscum administration? It’s enough to fight America’s enemies without worrying about the stab in the back from leftists within.
