--snip-- Farkas, 56, of Woolwich Township N.J., was shot and killed on his bus during an apparent robbery shortly after 7 p.m. Friday on West 5th Street near Fulton Place. Police had not arrested or identified a suspect as of last night.
A native of Czechoslovakia, Farkas moved to the United States at the age of 16 and joined the Navy at age 18, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.
He married Maureen Beail-Farkas when the couple was 20, and the pair became San Diego police officers before they were accepted to serve with the Peace Corps in Chile.

Oh how awful!
RIP
It is so sad that somebody would kill this friendly old Bohemian.
He was a Peace Corps volunteer to Chile. Gee that does not seem like too rough of an assignment. Chile is a rich country and much Whiter than the USA. The taxpayers paid for that vacation. Even Peace Corps volunteers in Central America live better there than I did when I was a starving cub reporter.
This guy was stubborn. He had already been mugged two times and was still an Obama supporter. Some people never get it even when it is laid out for ‘em.
What a remarkable man. R.I.P.
Even 30+ years ago Chester was a scary place.
It’s probably gotten worse but I haven’t been there in 30 years.
