WASHINGTON Down to single digits in his days left in office, President George W. Bush is warning the Republican Party not to become "anti-immigrant" as it regroups from defeat and retools its leadership. "It's very important for our party not to narrow its focus, not to become so inward looking that we drive people away from a philosophy that is compassionate and decent," . .

Is anyone using the Whig name?
Here is the single biggest issue where I CANNOT WAIT for Bush to be GONE. No one in the GOP is “anti-immigrant,” Mr. Bush!
We are anti-ILLEGAL immigrant, Bush you damnable moron! Can you understand the word ILLEGAL!? Does it get through your thick skull?
I agree with Bush on some things, tolerate him on others, respectfully disagree on others. But his unAmerican stance on wide open borders is at least one issue where I VIOLENTLY disagree with this man.
If he wants to be inundated by uneducated, disease ridden, low-end Mexicans I suggest he move to Mexico. THIS is not Mexico.
I have no problem with properly monitored and regulated LEGAL immigration. We need it and always have. But a unfettered invasion of the worst Mexico has to offer is NOT what we need... but it IS what Bush wants and I cannot for the life of me understand this damn fool for it?
Yes, all those muslims chanting at rallys this week across the USA that Jews need get put in ovens again sure is a great example of our immigration policy in action.
I respectfully submit that it is neither compassionate nor decent to squander the heritage, freedoms, liberty, and treasure of the Citizens of this great nation by overwhelming it from without by the very sanction of the Government elected to serve us, those same citizens.
I further submit that delineating between the lawful immigrants who come here to become a citizen of these United States to partake of that heritage for themselves and their issue, and the invaders who swarm our borders to loot it is not discriminatory in any but the very most enlightened sense.
Listening to Bush give advice on best ways to win elections is like listening to Madonna talk about chastity.
Illegals aren’t “immigrants”. They’re aliens.
I’m not against immigrants either. I’m against Illegal Aliens...the low-life gangbangers who trash every neighborhood they infest, destroying lives and property.
Don’t accept the media’s doublespeak when they try to categorize things in terms of “immigrants’ rights” or the “immigration debate”. There are immigrants, and there are illegal aliens who broke in.
let’s care more about “law breakers” from other countries, abusing our system set in place for our own citizens, committing felony id fraud, stealing identities, taking jobs from citizens (illegally), and the scum that have come in with the “hard working people” to maim, murder, and deal in drugs.
on this issue, the man has completely lost my respect
Of course, the Dems and RINOs want this because it ensures lots more 'RAT votes.
Absolutely clueless.
Please note, though -- and old conservatives with long memories will and do remember this -- that Bush's statement is entirely in character with the sandbag job that business-wing "economic conservative" Republicans have done repeatedly on Main Streeters who have been more conservative than they.
Nelson Rockefeller called Goldwater delegates "fascists" and compared them directly to "Nazis" on live national television, with premeditation, during the Republican convention that extended him the courtesy of five minutes to deliver a platform minority report in prime time. That was a major backstab that has never been commented on again by the commentariat (who are just about all 'Rats anyway).
At a later convention, Rocky actually shot conservative delegates the bird -- I didn't know he'd done it since I didn't see a photo for a long time afterward (again, press self-censorship and "all the news that fits").
So remember, boys and girls, the business wing of the GOP is in business for themselves, and their loyalty only goes one way.
It's a bit of a mystery to me why, at this late date, Bush feels moved to articulate a very unpopular position in a way that subserves the interests only of the business/employer lobby who want to drown the country in cheap immigrant labor, and of the Democratic Party.
Bush appears to have prevented another 9/11. His tax cuts were fine—though repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment would be better. He was sort-of pro-life.
Otherwise, he has been a disaster. He has hastened the end of the United States.
We should be anti *muslim* immigration. Their religion mandates the murder of all non-adherants, END OF STORY.
The El President is gearing up to run for President of Mexico.
Hey G.W., thanks for your service to our country, now go to your ranch in Crawford and shut the hell up.
Amnesty for illegals is a crock of pooh. Mel Martinez, Lindsey Graham, Juan McLame and yourself should be ashamed for trying to just provide cheap labor by destroying this country.
Round up ALL illegals and send them home.
Make it very hard on ANYONE who hires an illegal.
How about being pro-law and pro-America? Is that ok or should we be more like McCain?
