If the Republicans in CA nominate a pro abortion candidate, then we might as well vote for a Democrat.

One of the core principles of conservatism is right to life.

Any politician willing to “compromise” on abortion is willing to compromise on anything.

No doubt. The problem with the RINOS is they want to “fix” the government, not reduce the government. They are pro big government they just want to be in charge...SCREW THEM.

You are absolutely correct.

Remember when Arnold took the governor's seat, how many Freepers were talking about how great that was. While they hoped it was because he was a strong conservative, it was really because he was a celebrity, and everyone hoped that a conservative celebrity would be able to promote conservatism.

I withheld judgment.

We need to stand behind representatives who have supported conservatism, who have been tried under fire, and who have stood by the basic principles of conservatism.

Getting behind someone because they are a minority (and will bring in the minority vote, foolish assumption) or because they are a celebrity (and will make conservatism cool, foolish assumption) is a wasted and self-defeating effort.

We need intelligent conservatives who have stood behind their principles and who can also promote conservatism.

Many social issues (abortion, gay rights, minority representation) were cooked up by extreme leftists in order to split this country apart. The principles of our Founding Fathers are for the best of all, and in THAT, there is unity and strength. To jump on their bandwagon is to accept their premises (America is corrupt and oppressive and needs to be set straight by central management) and thus defeat our own argument.

Pro-life measures will never pass in CA at this time.

The state is swimming in $40 billion red ink - and you want to make abortion a priority?

Look, a lot of people supported RINOLD in 2003 because of the fiscal aspect. The problem with RINOLD is that he unfortunately supported global warming and didn't take on the entrenched unions or fight the bloated state gov't.

The state is being killed by regulations, taxes, bureaucracy, illegals, etc. Fight the social issues for another day, and work on getting the fiscal house in order first. I had no problem with Schwarzenegger's social views initially as long as he would have reined in spending and advanced real, objective, long-term energy policies.
