MOGADISHU, Somalia — Five of the Somali pirates who released a hijacked oil-laden Saudi supertanker drowned with their share of a reported $3 million ransom after their small boat capsized, a pirate and port town resident said Saturday.
Pirate Daud Nure says the boat with eight people on board overturned in a storm after dozens of pirates left the Sirius Star following a two-month standoff in the Gulf of Aden that ended Friday.

It's a shame they died in a storm... what will there families do that rely on their income?
It occurs to me that if one were competent, well armed, and had a decent boat with about ten friends (one of whom lived in the Cook Islands or some other tax haven) there would be a snootful of money to be made out of piracy, with nearly no downside to consider. All of it tax free.
I wonder that Western organized crime hasn’t gotten involved: it would have to be tempting, and it can’t be that difficult if these Somali punks can do it.
1. Whoever owned the oil may have made money as the price of oil increased while the tanker was being held.
2. Other "pirates" are probably making money off "robbing" the pirates. (Pretty common in the dope business too.)

Obama is a compasionate man, he will take part of the $300 billion stimulus money and help them too. We’re all part of this same world, spread the wealth. Eventually Obama will use YOUR 401k plan to help others. Obama reasoning: It wasn’t the pirates fault, they’re only doing what they have to do to feed their families. Not all of this message is sarcasm.

Perhaps they put all the Gold Doubloons and Pieces of Eight on one side of the boat causing it to capsize?
I would have blown the small craft out of the water as it was leaving the tanker. If any pirates had survived I would have rescued them as it is called for in Maratime Law. I would then have given them a Captain’s Mass, and if found guilty, HANGED THE GUILTY!
Some US philanthropic foundation will start supplying them with life vests....
