Hellooooooo possum!:)
To: All
A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Greetings to all the Freepers out there this evening. time for the Friday Flyby. Well your humble poster of airplanes had to dig deep into the archives this evening for tonights posting. So this evening I was able to scrounge up some pictures of "Old Shakey"
Yep the C-124 Globemaster II is tonights aircraft. The Douglas C-124 was a development of the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and incorporated many of the lessons that were learned from the Berlin Airlift.
The "Globemaster" was America's largest and last reciprocating propeller driven transport. Built by Douglas Aircraft, it was the crowning addition to their already successful line of transport aircraft. Its bloodline started with the DC-3/C-47, and continued through the DC-4/C-54 and the DC-6/C-118 line of airliners and military transports.
Capable of carrying 200 passengers or 68,500 pounds of cargo, the C-124 could move heavy equipment, troops and litter patients. From 1959 to 1961, it transported "Thor" missiles across the Atlantic to England. The four 3,800 horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-4360 engines that powered the C-124 made her the "Queen of the Airlift Fleet".
Well on with the pics...
We start off with a picture of the C-74 at the Douglas Long beach plant. Note the unique cockpit design of the C-74!!! Sharp eyed viewers will note the B-17 in the background missing the nose and engines as well.
One of the C-124s signature features were the clamshell doors in the nose. These doors and the ramps allowed trucks and even tanks to be loaded into the Globemaster.
A C-124 inflight over the Golden gate bridge, I think
A Globemaster at Thule, Greenland Brrrr
Another inflight shot of the Globemnaster.
An early C-124A model caught on takeoff
Oner of the gents I work with started off his service in the USAF as an engine mechanic on the C-124s. He was a bit surprised when I referred to "Old Shakey" :-)
Well that's all for tonights Flyby. Hope everybody has a great weekend out there.
Regards
