Tom Finneran gets help from former governors in pardon bid

BOSTON — Former Massachusetts House Speaker Thomas Finneran has enlisted the help of four former governors in his bid to get a pardon from President Bush on an obstruction of justice conviction.

The Boston Globe reports Friday that Finneran submitted an application for a presidential pardon last month. The four governors — Democrat Michael Dukakis and Republicans William Weld, Paul Cellucci, and Jane Swift — followed with a letter of support.

In the letter, obtained by the newspaper, the governors says Finneran has been severely punished and has "learned the error of the episode."

Finneran, currently a radio talk show host, pleaded guilty in January 2007 to obstruction of justice charges stemming from his testimony in a federal suit over a House redistricting plan.

This guy pled out to the obstruction charge after lying about gerrymandering a legislative district along racial lines to a federal grand jury. He claimed he knew nothing about the redistricting even though he as Speaker of the House in Mass. The guy he was helping out was a state rep who had taken control of a mentally ill woman's property and written out a will naming himself and an aide as sole benefiaries.

Oh I forgot, the mentally ill woman was run down by a taxi driven by an acquaintaince of the same state rep.

He's been severely punished? LOL. Ya mean he can't make money the good ol’ fashioned way on Beacon Hill anymore by stuffing it in his coat pockets like others do? Having a talk show isn't what I call being “severely punished”. Being in prison is.

This guy shouldn’t be considered at all but if he is, he should be waaaay down the list from Ramos and Compean.
