Good point. I thought the main reason for Fitz arresting him when he did is so Blago couldn't appoint anyone to the Senate seat.... LOL. We see how that worked out.
The discovery phase between now and the trial (or into it) will be interesting, presuming it happens. I assume the Senate is planning to try Blago on what evidence the House had so we’ll see.
But Blago can initiate his own discovery event. The Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald oversees the trial. Blago should have every right for discovery through Judge Fitzgerald.
Keep in mind, the Senate needs 2/3 to convict. This is another issue in the back of Blago’s mind...and performance.
He is simply wallowing in all the attention and he wants it continue as long as possible before the inevitable happens and he's frogmarched off to the hoosegow. He wants to create a Blago-cult by playing the populist martyr. Hence the bizarre performance we just witnessed. It was pure theater.
EXACYLY. Narcissists aren't necessarily smart, they are just arrogant & can't take a hint, believe they are above the law & make their own "right & wrong" up in their own heads!
They also love to spout about their grand gestures & they need the attention it's called (narcissistic supply) of the people to survive, like the rest of us need oxygen!
This man is NOT nuts. Hot wired, yes. Perhaps a sociopath? Possibly. Well, maybe more than possibly. But nuts? Not.
What you’re seeing is politics played Chicago style. This is something the rest of the nation rarely sees. But this is how it’s done. And Blago has learned and learned well how to play the system.
I'm no fan of any Democrat but I felt he had the right to talk and lets all hope he talks alot in coming months, I'm sure he know where all the dirt and bodies are buried...GO Rod, spill the beans buddy. the guys in D.C. are more than likely having fits...good
All those Democrats think and act alike.
I just emailed Faux News : "Get rid of shep, the drama QUEEN.Thanks for the insight.
I had to go to CNN for "fair and balanced" News"
Oops, sorry hoosiermama. My post #187 was meant for maggief. Her post to me was directly below yours and I hit the wrong link...
There is another side that people who know him see, which is seldom discussed here, but should be. And that is "asshole". I'm not being flip here. I'm serious. He is a genuine honest to goodness one-in-a-million example. He knows what he is doing, and he will do his damnedest to minimize his own damage, whatever it takes. The one thing about a true asshole, is that he is dependable. You can count on him to always be an asshole. With that in mind you can stay a step ahead of him. Discount it, and he'll eat you for breakfast.
He's already been impeached. Now, unless he resigns, the matter goes to the Illinois state senate for a type of trial that is similar to, but not the same as, a trial in a court of law.
In any case, you asked the question, "I dont know why the dems are being so aggressive about his impeachment." The answer is that they want him out of office as soon as possible. They hope to pressure him into resigning, but it seems like Blago is being as obstinate as Bill Clinton was when he was impeached. So they'll do the senate trial, kick Blago out ASAP, and the matter will fade into the background.
The Dems left themselves no other choice, because they refuse to allow a special election. They're afraid to lose the U.S. senate seat to a Republican.
Have you noticed that no one in this disgusting saga is really looking out for the interests of the people of Illinois?
If O fires Fitz I’ll be surprised. It would look unseemly at best; and bring a bunch of unwanted attention.
Nothing in a criminal trial can affect Blago being removed from office. Once he's removed, that's it. A criminal trial does not affect a removal from office.
Skid, you are absolutely correct. It is what seperates the amateur A-holes from the professionals.
Time will tell exactly what Blago has on anyone else. If he's holding some sort of ace up his sleeve then he'll play it at the appropriate time. If it doesn't appear, you'll know the whole thing was pure bluff.
What can’t you believe?
I never said it did. I said an acquittal in the criminal trial may give Blago the notion of seeking reinstatement. That's what I said.
Blago is as innocent as Al Frankin is an honestly elected Senator.
