Katzenberg, who was not specific about the size of his losses, said it was a "disgrace" that Madoff was currently free on bail adding that his own losses have done "extraordinary damage" to his philanthropic efforts.
"The first time I heard the name Bernie Madoff was about three weeks ago," he said. "What it has done to other people is terrible. It's destroyed many people's lives. People that I know."
Madoff, 70, a former chairman of the NASDAQ stock exchange, was arrested by the FBI on December 11 and charged with securities fraud after he allegedly told senior executives at his New York-based firm that the funds under his management were "basically a giant Ponzi scheme".
Marilyn & Jeffrey Katzenberg Foundation had listed assets of $22.1m as of 2007...

Sorry to sound like a hard-a**, but if you do not know who is handling your capital, you deserve to lose it.
Period.
Hey, Jeff, if you “profited” from this Ponzi Scheme, you may have to pay it back....................
“his own losses have done “extraordinary damage” to his philanthropic efforts...”
OY OY OY- There goes his “charitable” writeoffs and tax shelters! Now his income may be exposed to .... gasp...TAXATION.
Okay...who has the HA HA guy pic?
Oh, it’s so sad that his far-left “philanthropic” efforts could be curtailed. Could Bernie Madoff be a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy plant? His “victims” appear to be largely the sort that do more harm than good.
Not in Today’s America, where Personal responsibility is looked down upon as “individualism,” and how everyone has the “right” to a job, health care, and to be free from “want.”
It has become the responsibility of the US Treasury to make anyone and everyone who lost money “whole” again.
Think of all the good his charities did?
Re: Think of all the good his charities did?
Doesn’t matter. The first thing any expert will advise before choosing a mutual fund is to see who is running it.
This guy never heard of Madoff? Ever?
Unbelievable. Not a tear from me.
I don't mean to make fun of this guy's loss. Its sad. But this comment is pure B.S.
You know, the kind Hollywood makes glorifying evil when it's evil being done against children or the middle class?
If Marlon Brando was still with us - and much younger - he could play Madoff.
Any bets on the chances of them glorifying some idiot who took them?
Same guy complaining about a Ponzi scheme is also contributing mucho dollars (through his employees) for the upcoming O-nauguration. Guess Dreamworks will be lookin’ to get some foldin’ money from that other great Ponzi scheme Congress.
...coming soon to a bail-out store near you
Katzenberg serves on the boards of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, the Museum of the Moving Image, Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, California Institute of the Arts and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. The guy does some good.
Why is that comment BS?
Care to elaborate?
If one picks a surgeon blindfolded and winds up dying on the table, is anyone really to blame except for the person who made the idiotic move? No. Same here.

I had heard that tigers eat their young but I never thought I would see it.
were his board positions “unpaid”? even if so, were his expenses, parties, banquets, fundraising soires, travels etc- charged off his taxable income?
Jeffrey will just have it work a little harder this year so he can continue to give so generously of his earthly treasure. And maybe fly commercial in economy class.
I assume you are referring to Madoff? It is unclear from your post.
You mean this one?
