Last week, I received an email from a former 747 pilot named Thomas Young.
In early August 1996, Young explained, he was laid up in a Hong Kong hospital with a back injury. His employer, Polar Air Cargo, flew his wife Barbara out to join him. They had little else to do but watch TV. Here is what they saw.
The videotape began with people milling about on a deck facing a body of water. In the background, a streak oflight can be seen leaving a point below the edge of the deck, accelerating as it climbed; it passed behind what appeared to me to be a thin cloud layer and continued upward out of the frame, from right to left. As the streak of light disappeared beyond the edge of the frame, after a slight pause, there is a generalized, dim flash on the upper left side of the screen, followed by a brighter and more pronounced flash.
Some 270 eyewitnesses on Long Island would give formal accounts to the FBI of the same event--an apparent missile attack on TWA Flight 800 on the night of July 17,1996. Scores of them would provide detailed drawings.
The TWA 800 story was big news, Young explains, and was getting top billing in the Asian press.
Young had a distinct perspective on what he was seeing. For six years in the 1980s he had worked at Boeing, much of that time in its Space and Strategic Missile Systems Division.... Given the TV reception in his Hong Kong hospital, Young could not identify the type of missile that took out TWA Flight 800, but he was confident he was seeing a missile.
If this was a Navy missile, Barbara recalls her husband telling her at the time, there goes Clintons re-election.

A cover up from the start. The two reporters who found missle residue on a seat were put in jail. A cover up big time.
This is true...but really mean (talking about me)... I am so going to hell!
I read everything I could get my hands on when this happened. You bet is was a missle of some sort. Just ask the reporters who ended up in jail. They had the goods and were shut up real good. So you are not an idiot. Or we are both idiots. Eather way I do not care what some uninformed person says.
Clinton did not want anything to happen to “rock the boat” or his presidency. Remember his administration was run by polls. He could have had Bin Ladan but chose not to. Too controversial. He would have covered up 9\11 if he could have. Remember him bombing a building in Iraq? Got a janitor.
Actually al baby, you’ll undoubtedly recall the 43 center-tank fuel explosions that struck 747’s from 1984 - and continue today. Just last week 326 people were killed when a center fuel tank exploded over Chicago....I’m sure you read about it. I mean after all, with such a history of center fuel tank explosions and the fact that Richard Clarke and Bill CRinton have never lioed or covered-up anything that could have been potentially harmful to their political careers, one must have total confidence in the theory of center fuel tank explosions and the CIA’s computer modeling of the tragedy. And you’re a smart guy, right al baby? So I’m sure you you and Clarke et al are sympatico!
I’ve been an aviation tech writer and analyst for close to five years now, but I’ve worked as an aircraft electrical and avionics technician for 26 of the 31 years I’ve spent in the aerospace field. I’ve worked on more than 50 types of military and civilian aircraft in that time.
Hell, I even did work on a TWA 747 in early 1996-they bought it used from Qantas and were doing mods to it where I was working in Texas-it wasn’t the same one that went down in July, BTW.
Anyway, I know a few things about wire, fuel tanks, capacitance type fuel quantity indicating systems, etc. and I don’t believe the official story-if aircraft fuel system electrical wire installed in fuel tanks and immersed in fuel did that, I’d be walking around with a crash helmet on—because planes would be dropping out of the sky every other day.
One thing I’ve learned in this field is anything can happen, but from merely a technical experience point of view this seems VERY, VERY improbable (in fact the industry did dog and pony show wire inspections after this and I didn’t find or hear about ANY other aircraft that was a disaster waiting to happen).
Then, factor in all of the other non-tecnical stuff, suspicious circumstances, etc., and......
Though the location and date you mention are a little off, your conclusion is correct. I knew several people that were almost directly below that plane (fishing on Jamaica Bay) when the explosion (you know....the one the Feds say didn't happen) happened.
Just because I am paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get me...
“Boeing and TWA must have been greased by the feds big time to bend over and take it.”
I’d say more likely that they would have been subject to a Federal shakedown if they didn’t bend over ~ still it’s the same thing ~ thugocracy.
I’ll have to ask my bro about this. He’s a pilot and I’d bet he knows.
Then we can keep each other company.
FTS...let’s find someone to ask Panetta this question:
‘What do you think Sandy Berger was stealing’. Who could we approach? Jim Demint comes to mind.
Well at least it would be interesting...I have never seen you submit a boring post...lol.
Oh Crap another one just blewed up over my house I gotta go sweep the patio and drive way again
Then that retired NYPD friend should be able to confirm that as far as evidence goes, frequently the most useless evidence in any investigation is eyewitness testimony. Because, as you just noted, it's seldom accurate and often contradictory.
Just curios what was the take on this you got from your high school teachers?
What were their names?
Jan. 10, 2001: TWA files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for a third time and agrees to sell most of its assets to American Airlines. The sale, which is subject to approval by the bankruptcy court, brings an end to the financially troubled TWA, whose roots can be traced back 75 years.
In 1991 a Lauda Air 767 was torn apart over Thailand when the thrust reverse on the Number 1 engine deployed. Why aren't 767s dropping out of the air on a daily basis? In 1989 an electrical short caused the forward lower lobe cargo door on a United 747 to open. The explosive decompression caused the side of the fuselage to blow out and 9 people were sucked out. Why aren't 747 passengers raining down on us on a regular basis? In 1998 electrical arcing from an onboard entertainment system caused a fire that brought down a Swissair DC-11 off Nova Scotia. Why don't we have flaming DC-11s crashing down upon us on a regular basis?
The answer is, of course, because airliners are built to high standards of quality and well maintained. But even then, things happen. Fortunately they tend to happen only once because the cause is identified and corrections taken. Why is it so hard to believe that the same isn't true with TWA 800?
Then disregard it.
I said in paragraph # 4 of my post that anything can happen.
I’m not familiar with the 1991 thrust reverser incident-did the pilot deploy it in error?
The 1989 incident-don’t recall it, but I don’t see how an “electrical short” can cause deployment of a door. There are interlocks built in those systems to prevent such a thing-not to mention mechanical locks. I’d have to know more about the specific incident before I could discuss it.
I do recall the Swissair OBE/electrical fire—Most OBE systems are not installed by the original manufacturer. I seem to recall that there were issues with the aircrew’s actions, materials, etc.—but this is all apples and oranges. The Flight 800 incident is different-the offical line is that wiring in the fuel tank was degraded to the point that it caused the problem. Some documents point specifically to fuel quantity system wiring—these capacitance type systems are measured in picofarads-one millionth of a miliionth of a farad.
I’ve heard of technicians putting a TF-20 Liquid Quantity Capacitance/Resistance test set on an aircraft and doing resistance checks, using the test set megohmmeter, on full/partially full tanks, finding shorted shielded cable-that check puts 500 VDC through the wire. Nothing happened.
I said in my original post that what the official line is improbable—but when you couple it with the non-technical big picture, lots of different big and small facts, plus eyewitness reports—hell, wasn’t July 19th Baathist Independence Day?—it seems kind of fishy.
