Holder hearings won't be 'smooth sailing'

The battle lines have been drawn for what is shaping up to be a bruising confirmation battle for Attorney General nominee Eric H. Holder Jr. , though even his foes acknowledge he probably will be confirmed to lead the Obama administration's Justice Department.

Partisan posturing continued Wednesday with some Republicans attacking Mr. Holder's prior work in the Justice Department and questioning whether he will show the independence necessary to succeed in its top post. Democrats and civil rights leaders defended Mr. Holder as eminently qualified and accused critics of playing politics.

Confirmation hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee are scheduled to start Jan. 15.

BLOOMBERG NEWS Attorney General nominee Eric H. Holder Jr. will face sharp confirmation questioning starting Jan. 15, though foes concede he will likely be approved for the post.

Holder is a hardcore gun-grabber. He does not believe any American civilian should own a firearm.

I think Obama is recreating the Gorelick justice department complete with her famous wall. Panetta will work it from the CIA side.

It is the intention of this new administration to bring our country down to the level of the euroweenies.

This will make us vulnerable to attack but on an individual basis it is unlikely that we will be giving up our guns any time soon.

Congress wants a bit more say in these picks. They want to protect themselves for 2010. They don’t want the American voters to be scared by a bunch of misfits in the White House in an off year election because they might get turned out.

Nonsense. The Republicans have no stones. I few of them will make some great arguments against, but as a group, they'll stand up and say "thank you sir! may I have another!"

I'd bet every one of Obie's nominees get at least 30 R-votes,

Purely aside from his attitude towards guns, he’s a raving leftist who would be perfectly happy conducting aggressive politically motivated “investigations” and harrassment of anybody who opposes Bambi. He has a horrible track record.

“I’d bet every one of Obie’s nominees get at least 30 R-votes”

I totally agree — it’ll happen for “unity” and “civility” and “bipartisanship.”

Pass the puke.

It was just a rhetorical question to provoke thought about that POS president select. It was not pointed at you or anyone else directly... perhaps it needed a /s tag.

Since Holder is one of very few African Americans appointed by BO, they may have a point. Maybe BO doesn’t like blacks.
