Bountiful community leaders charged with polygamy

On Wednesday around 7:45 a.m., eight plainclothes RCMP officers in unmarked cars drove up to the homes of polygamous leaders Winston Blackmore and James Oler in southeastern British Columbia.

They arrested Blackmore, 52, and Oler, 44, and charged them with the criminal offence of practising polygamy. It may not be the first time that anyone in Canada has been charged with polygamy. But it is definitely the first time anyone has been charged since the 1800s.

First same-sex "marriage," then polygamy.

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the activist judges who have interpreted it in ways beyond imagination will no doubt strike down the polygamy law as unconstitutional.

Then someone is going to seek a marriage licence, and polygamy will not merely be decriminalized, but legalized.

This is Canada, after all.

Agree. Don’t see how you can criminalize polygamy if same-sex marriage is legal. Pure polyphobic discrimination.

If they were just AIDS carrying homos having random sex with multiple partners or old muslim men married to more than one 9 year old girl they would be getting government handouts and protection instead of government harassment.
