In a remarkable screw-up, a Department of Justice official today accidentally distributed to the media a document containing the names of nearly 20 confidential witnesses interviewed during a federal probe targeting the operators of a fraudulent investment scheme.
In announcing felony charges against two men for their roles in an alleged $15 million Ponziesque swindle, the spokesman for Chicago U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald (he of Rod Blagojevich- and Scooter Libby-prosecuting fame) e-mailed reporters a 62-page U.S. District Court complaint filed against John Walsh and Charles Martin, principals of the now-defunct One World Capital Group.
Included in the document was a one-page key that identified by name sources referred to in the complaint only by monikers such as "Employee A," "Customer D," or "Individual F."
The inadvertent disclosure of the sources--former One World employees, customers, and "other" individuals who spoke with FBI and IRS agents--caused Fitzgerald spokesman Randall Samborn to send an urgent follow-up email asking journalists to destroy the complaint due to the "non-public information disclosing the identities of persons not named in the affidavit."
A copy of the source key, which we've strategically blurred, can be found here.

I beg to differ. Anyone (or anyone’s secretary) can carelessly forget to remove a page from a mass mail package.

“Isnt this like what he went after Libby for?”
I dunno, he knew Libby was innocent before he started going after Libby. The guy should be in jail.
Fitzy doesn’t do anything accidently.
Blago will go unscathed, ergo so will the rest of the perps
associated in this corruption, and as with everything else about the left’s corruption, the people will never get the truth.
For sure the in the º tank media won’t investigate.
Fired, hell. He just earned himself a nice cozy spot in the new administration.
Wonder if Ponzi Penny’s name is on there somewhere? If the press is keeping silent, you can bet that some of Obama’s donors, staff and/or appointments are in the list.
[somewhere in the Daley machine] “Quick! We need a scapegoat!”
This work would seem to sensitive to be sloppy.
Doesn’t fritz have a few different charges going against blago ?
Compounding that stupidity, Fitzgerald has been dogging it on the Blagojevitch case, and has done such a poor job here that Blago is still in office and has actually taken the opportunity to sign bills into law, authorize public expenditures, and appoint a new US Senator to replace Obama.
The man and his staff are peculiarly incompetent ~ not just "incompetent", and not just "more incompetent", but peculiarly so.
I would imagine he and his RINO friends had visions of him becoming a major nominee for something someday.
Let's hope he retires to private practice.
Nothing like job security.
“One World Capital Group” sounds like a globalist something or other....here’s some more on the civil suit that the criminal stuff probably came from.......possibly a conduit to Chicago for o’momma’s foreign funding? (links to more doc’s at the bottom:

Hey, is revealing the secret identities of 20 confidential witnesses in a highly sensitive investigation so much better than Richard Armitage referring to “Harriet the Spy” Valerie Plame while talking to a WaPo reporter?
Since Fitzgerald thought it appropriate to try to ruin the lives of everyone in WH over Plamegate (when he knew that no one in the WH was actually responsible), I wonder how many lives should be ruined in the US Attorney’s office over this fiasco?
That!

Charles G. Martin, 43, of Glencoe, Ill., and Malibu, Calif., was arrested Tuesday night in the Los Angeles area, and John E. Walsh, 60, of Lake Forest was picked up Wednesday morning on a criminal complaint charging them with wire fraud.
A court order closed their One World Capital Group LLC in December 2007 and froze its last $636,815 of assets. The two men operated a “Ponzi-like” scheme diverting money out of customer accounts and into their pockets, prosecutors said.
The criminal complaint was filed in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.
One World was formed in 2005 and had offices in Winnetka and New York, prosecutors said. Martin and Walsh misled customers and federal regulators to conceal the fact that they siphoned off money customers thought was being used for currency trades.
Credit card and bank records show Martin spent more than $1 million at a strip club and restaurants, nearly $1 million at hotels and $1 million renting private jets, prosecutors said. He also purchased a fleet of luxury vehicles, donated hundreds of thousands to celebrity charity events and hired bodyguards, they said.
Walsh allegedly used his One World credit card to charge personal expenses including $140,000 worth of jewelry.
Bank records also show the two men dipped into company funds to finance an unreleased movie, “Order of Redemption,” for which Martin was listed as a contributing producer, according to an affidavit attached to the criminal complaint. It said they sank $569,000 into the movie.
Is there a non-blurred copy of page 2 anywhere?
Had you read the article, you would know that this case has absolutely nothing to do with Obama, Blago or any of their confederates.
I’m sure it’s purposely blurred to protect identities obviously. No sane prosecutor releases the names of “nearly 20 confidential witnesses,” but then there’s Fitzie .....
Good word ... peculiarly. I’ve called him quirky, tunnel-visioned and unpredictable. There’s something just not completely right there.
Outside of the links to Obama’s and Blago’s foreign “investment” group! (foreign donor base), it has nothing to do with anything ~ it’s just out and out INCOMPETENCE of the most peculiar kind.
