Were Todd in California he could have taken and passed the California High School Proficiency Exam, and received his diploma from the state. I am wondering if there is not such a program in Alaska.

I agree with you that rules are rules.

But...what exactly does a HS diploma or a GED prove these days? Certainly not that the bearer can read, write or do basic arithmetic.

Actually, a lot of companies would be happy to do the governor an unstated favor—even if it attracts a little attention.

I respect a GED a lot more than most HS diplomas.

I’m guessing, though I don’t know, that the company has some sort of funding toward its apprentice program—which requires them to follow the diploma rule.

I'm sure that Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan is equally concerned about the many millions of illegal immigrants working illegally in America. I'm just sure of it.

I understand that but once its brought to light the only remedy was for him to quit and get his degree, which is exactly what his father had him do.

We would never have known about Monica Lewinski if Drudge hadnt pushed it. Is that a conservative "tactic"?

See we do the same things to the democrats when we can. If they are going to drag they're kids into this arena they can expect to be under the microscope.

But you have a choice get in the gutter with them and allow ignore the rules till caught or take a high road and police yourself when you fall short.

You’re missing the point. The company hired him knowing his qualifications (or lack thereof) that’s their prerogative.

No it is not. Federal regulations require members of apprectice programs, either union or non-union, to have a high school degree or the equivilent. It's not up to the company.

“I respect a GED a lot more than most HS diplomas.”

Just out of curiosity, why?

I don't think they gave them away either but did the magazine print a picture of the check to show the $300,000 amount? (I've also heard that People is denying that rumor.).

They're denying the $300,000 amount, but the money that the two received was in the six figures. It could be $299,000. It could be $301,000. It could be $100,000. In any event it was a nice paycheck.

By all means - let no rule go unenforced. Rules are rules!

Of course, even in the US Air Force, I was taught “Regulations are made for the guidance of the wise and the strict adherence of fools.”

As a poster pointed out, a high school diploma is not federally mandated for this job.

Apparently it is.

Apparently, you have a reading comprehension problem:

In a written statement, the company said its electrical apprenticeship program eligibility requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, "but this is not a requirement mandated by the federal government."
By the way, please post a link to the pictures you previously claimed were in the last issue of People magazine (or a link to a story about them). Someone else has stated that no baby pictures have been published so one or the other of you is wrong.

Mandating high school through 12th grade keeps the industrious youth who’d just as soon enter the workforce out of competition with adult, and specifically adult union, labor. Additionally, it would provide the only accessable pool of cheaper labor able to compete against illegal immigrants. Your average 13-18 year old generally isn’t obligated to support a wife and kid, and often is not even obligated to a rent payment.

God forbid our path towards utopian dumbed down socialism be diverted by a few million industrious youths... /sarc>

That is a company rule and therefore the company may or may not choose to enforce it. Jemian

Anyone within six degrees of separation from the Governor is going to be ripped to shreds on the slimmest of excuses, and today was Levi's turn. Again. MathDoc
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Jemian and MathDoc,

It is likely that the company does not want packs Marxist media jackal's hot on its heels.

Everyone within “six degrees” of separation from Palin will be ripped to shreds. Mathdoc is so right. And,...these traitorous Marxists will go after everything about the company whether related to Levi or not.

Good point. I agree with you. My son is in his final year in High School. He doesn’t know what he wants to do and has decided to go Air Force. School is torture. He has taken all his important classes and basically has boring make work now...we have to keep him focused-not easy.

Im assuming you considered yourself wise at the high school level and only needed guidance but most kids in the air force at 18 most likely needed stricter interpretation.

Its not this kids fault his moltherinlaw has drawn the microscope on her whole family but he has to live with it if he stays with his wife.

Like you I learned a few things about rules such as "Lifes a bitch then you die."
