Stop Feeding The Beast (Vanity)
Vanity | 1/5/09 | Torchthemummy

Posted on 01/05/2009 4:50:28 PM PST by torchthemummy

Feeling bummed, down, deflated etc? Feel that no matter whether the Republicans were to get their act together the Pro-Democrat Media (PDM) would never allow a cogent, honest assessment of anything from the Republicans? Angry that the PDM provides cover for all that Congressional (and soon executive) Dems do and all the Dem auxillaries from education to union to sciences etc. Tired of the emotionally-charged and intellectually-bankrupt PGM 24/7? Then dump 'em!

That's right - stop feeding the beast.

On Tuesday, January 20, cancel your cable or satellite subscription. In one fell swoop you will disempower CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, PBS, Bravo, BBC and on down the line of PDM news and entertainment networks. At the same time you will force the media outlets towards an al carte system so that you can choose what you want to pay for and stop funding those that you do not. This will also hasten the transition to an internet-based distribution to allow even more flexibility.

There is a two-fold effect when you discontinue your tv service. First, you will end the direct royalties that each network gets up front for being included in a distributor's channel lineup. Second, instead of trying to identify boycott individual sponsors by boycotting certain shows, you will cover the entire spectrum. These dropped revenues will either give these networks and their biased news/drama shows a swift kick in the butt to say, "We just want fairness when it comes to anything political", or else they will die on the vine.

Now the big achilles heel to this can be summed up in one word: sports. You're a loyal fan and feel that at a minimum watching football on Sunday allows you to unwind and forget the bias of all the other channels. The truth is that under the minimum subscription plans allowed you are funding ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN whether you like it or not, funding that is undermining the very real idea of America retaining some semblance of the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Many time we conservatives like to invoke the classic Edmund Burke quote: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." But what value is that quote if we allow ourselves to be steamrolled by the PDM that we VOLUNTARILY keep funding!

For any tv/movie fix you may be needing then join a mail order dvd rental company like Blockbusteror Netflix. While you of course would still be "feeding the beast" you will be doing so in a more targeted way and have the power to start or stop your subscription anytime. And again you are neutering the ad revenues that the networks would draw for any given show while gaining cool things like director and cast commentary.

And if you get Netflix you will have unlimited downloads (as of now) of instant movies and tv shows.

So please, if you truly believe, as I do, that our counstitutional freedoms are hanging by a thread, then give my proposal due consideration. I promise you that when you make the call to cancel you will feel more empowered by the second as the cable or satellite representative attempts to convince you to keep subscribing (tip: when you get through to the rep tell them right off the bat that you are recording the call for your own "quality assurance purposes"; tends to eliminate any additional sales pitches).

And then right after you cancel, go ahead and order a few books online. Or go on a walk...say to your local sports pub to lift a couple handles, maybe make a couple new friends, and when the ads interrupt the game, smile and know that at least you aren't feeding the PDM beast anymore.

Please ignore my first post of this under another title. I had written it in Notepad but didn't notice that it completely reformatted it when I cut and pasted.

I've been wanting to write this since Nov. 4 but after hearing about Pelosi's new rules that will completely neuter any opposition in the House (and the indifference of the Pro-Democrat Media) I just had to at least put the proposal out there.

Thanks for the kind words. I will make sure that I don’t infringe on rules I didn’t know existed.

“some demons go out only by prayer AND FASTING” Jesus said.

Not all fasting involves skipping meals.

Good post.

Don’t worry. Your post is more important than most of what gets posted - rules or no.

If every conservative pulled the plug on cable and other forms of liberal media it would probably cause what is left of the MSM to collapse. But, since it would require something more demanding than talk, the vast rightwing conspiracy won’t do it.

Yup. Like making a run on a bank.

But, since it would require something more demanding than talk, the vast rightwing conspiracy won’t do it.This I am afraid is true.

They must have an agreement. I watched the whole season of Fringe online.

Maybe they want to get us hooked and then charge money later.

The way cable TV is going - infomercials, ads covering half the screen, shows starting minutes off the hour so you miss endings, vulgarity... I don’t even watch Fox News any more.
I’m thinking about canceling cable.

I am doing the Netflix thing and I love it. I get what I want, when I want and can easily go back into time and watch many shows that were not so vulgar or subversive.

I’m thinking about that, too.

It’s hard for news junkies to give up 24-hour news even when the coverage is so bad. I still tape Fox News at 6:00 am because that’s when 9/11 happened in my timezone. I tape but delete without watching.

It’s a complusion - hard to stop.

In November, we had a death in the family, the pressures were enormous. I let a couple of bills slip, small amounts due, and just a lack of time to make all the normal payments. One fifty dollar bill, three weeks late to the telephone company, to whom I have been a consumer for thirty five years.

I got a big surprise, the phone company reported my delinquency to the credit bureau, and BankofAmerika canceled my line of credit. This hair trigger reporting system leaves no room for minor emergencies. This line of credit is important to the operation of my small business. Big brother does not care one wit.

I agree - Torch the Mummy, let everyone who hears the call, in the spirit of Lent, cancel your liberal Cable, newspapers and magazines. Go cold turkey for a few months, they need us way more than we need them. By your wife or girlfriend something nice for Valentines Day with the savings.

I’ve been thinking about going with just netflix as well. My wife gets her exercise videos streamed, my 4 year old gets children’s movies and shows streamed, and we rotate one disk at a time for a low monthly price. I don’t watch sports but do like an occassional relaxing evening in front of the tube . . .

The best to you and sorry for your loss.

Isn't it such a upside-down world when home loans with no money down and no employment info necessary get the blessing and hardworking Americans that get behind on a small bill get the shaft.

On the phone thing. I've had a pre-paid T-Mobile phone for years and love it. What is great about their plan is after you purchase a phone (as cheap as $20) if you buy $100 worth of minutes (1,000 minutes) you instantly become a "Gold Member" and get an extra 15% of minutes (ie. 150 extra minutes or 1,150 in total) and the minutes are good for a year. Then, as a Gold Member you will get 15% more minutes on a purchase $50 or more worth of minutes for the life of your active account.

Those minutes work out to 10/cents per minute to call 24/7 anywhere in the US. There are no monthly/annual fees to keep the phone active, just buy more minutes before the year is up. Other companies change the cost of the minute based on what time of the day the call is made; some tacking on a dollar-a-day fee for any day you use your phone.

Some give it a whirl if you choose. Paying-as-you-go is just fine when the deal is right.

Ted Sarandos, Executive Officer/Vice President, Divisional
Netflix, was a huge Obama donor in 08. Why give Netflix any money at all?
I am not doing business with companies such as this.
Ditto Starbucks etc etc.
